Question Power Steering Gearbox Questions.

The steering on my 94 16v 1.6L JLX 4 door automatic wanders noticeably. The alignment guy said the steering gearbox has a lot of play but not excessive. Does anyone have experience or advice about replacement rebuilt power steering gearboxes for the Sidekick? Anyone know a good true rebuilder? If not the steering gearbox, what else could cause steering to wander? All 4 tierods and both front struts have been replaced without noticeable improvement with regard to wander.
Thanks

Being new to having a sidekick in the line-up, I've noticed that they wander a bit more in relation to my other vehicles. I think most of it comes from having the short-wheelbase. If I were you, I'd look maybe into tightening the steering box a little bit. There's an adjustment on top (lock-nut & screw) Loosen the nut and turn the screw clock-wise by 1/4 turn at a time till theres 1/8" free-play in the steering wheel before movement of wheels. Then, test drive it. Don't go any less than 1/8 freeplay in the wheel as it makes the steering box too tight and will cause abnormal wear.

Smile Power steering gearbox adjustment

Thanks for the reply. The Alignment Guy suggested NOT adjusting the gearbox but it might just save me $350. I'll have to give it a try, maybe this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks Again.

Smile gearbox lash adjust

Ole-Boy
Adjustment went well. Noticably less wander and better stability in stiff crosswind on the highway like we had yesterday. Thanks for the advice.
