question how we can keep cat clean and not plug?

Would 97 Suzuki X90 need cat? It plug and not cheap to replace so Uncle want remove it.

I could notice power loss in 1,000 miles of drive.

plug ( did you look?at the honey comb?) or measure the back pressure. ? or what...
you mean melt. they don't plug they melt.
and that is simple.
don't let motor go rich.
don't let motor misfire and drive for a year. ( newer cars melt in 1 day)

i think i misunderstand your question.?

question: we think the CAT is clogged.? is that it? Think or Know, 2 key words.

and we want to remove it.

well , are you on the 2 year smog check plan or not? really that is the 1st question.
no, try a test pipe. (illegal usa wide, but ppl do it for testing, but not real mechanics, as it is illegal)

yes, then first fix the misfiring or huge rich condition on the motor. (connect a full scan tool and evaluate EFI running conditions)
check for excessive fuel pressure.
check for ECT sensor wires fall off. or bad ECT (open inside)

misfire and rich will kill any CAT.

Is cell lamp glowing away , un noticed? Running.?
