Default 92 Tracker "Project"

I've always wanted to learn more about vehicle internals but could never risk working on my daily driver, so I found a 92 GEO Tracker with a good drive train that needs some engine work and "some" body work for $300.
I thought it would make for a good summer project and in the end I'd have a nice OHV to play with. I thought I would start a thread to document the progress and any issues that come up along the way.

The engine problem seems to be that two freeze plugs came out in the cylinder head. Hopefully this is all that was damaged.

More info in this thread: http://www.suzuki-forums.com/suzuki-...eze-plugs.html

Here are some pictures of what I'm starting with... Got a ways to go.

It's story:

Interior was removed to repair some rust damage on floor pan (the only rust on it).
During storage the engine suffered freeze damage. PO thought it was a cracked block but after dissassembling the engine I have not found any leaks or otherwise with the block, just the blown freeze plugs in the head.
He said he drove it onto a trailer to move it and around the yard to get it out of the way a few times.
Some of the interior bits are missing but the engine is complete.
I'm working on finding a second donor on the cheap.
Interior doesn't bother me much. This is just a trail buggy intro project.

Eventually I'd like to do a VW diesel swap into a newer body and use that as a daily driver.

Hi, Now would be the time ,if you already haven't, is to beg ,borrow ,steal,or what many of us have done is to buy a factory shop manual.

If you han't already gotton one.

Stay away from the after market books like haynes chilton ect. Go for the real thing. You can get them off fleabay for around $20 - $30 dollars. And is worth every cent. Espeasaly little things like interier. The removal of vents ,how to repair doors, and of corse engine work.

Stupid me didn't learn untill I wasted my cash on crap books and then got the fac books.
Take care

ebay: search "geo tracker service manual" any 92 to 95 will do .
all have 8v sections , all same words. (cal car has diff egr valve)

you wont be sorry when you have it. tops !
the 95 book is the best. has better lay out and better usage of harnness routing.

also this can help on some things. not motor.
free
Ack's FAQ: Your 4X4 Portal To All Things Suzuki/Geo

but motor section is no good. for you as yours is 8v and this is 16v.
but lots of other good info.
some of the electrical is same ,
non abs brakes simular.

ive got all schematics so pm me for link to them.
also the EFI dwg here. for 92.
schematics to run engine

the 92-95 8v is yours

ps:
ask for someone here to sell you a head !! ppl here have them....

also on craigs, lots of "parting out trackers there" there are ways to search Craigs. country wide too.
