As long as I get around 25mpg i'm happy I got to get places so I boogie down the road as fast as safely possible.

Wow ! 30mpg My manual shift only gets 500km per 45 litres tank so that gives me 26mpg I think....

keep speed 40 to 60mph
stock tires.
new O2 sensor.

8v and automatics do worst for automatics is city.
automatics that do OD , and lockup are ok too for MPG on Highway.

8v can do over 25mpg
16v can exceed 30 mpg. easy, USG.

oneshop yours is horrible mileage 26 if those are imperial gallons, as is common in Canada. is it?

My geo get BEST gas at 3,500 rpm but at 4,000 rpm it feel outwind when you on hill.

I know it make more torque at 3,000 rpm.

for me , i monitor mpg as a best case.
EPA way is goofy. idling, city , highway,,, ( keeps them busy , good !)
why count idling mpg or averaging that in. (drive in LA sometime) silly , every city is diff.
why do i need to know averages for my car driven in them all?

some times i use my tracker to pull down big trees ( with 90 tackle and prime cuts)
24" douglas firs......
should i average that in. ahahahahahahah

I want to know how good it can be, usually 60 is best cruise MPG. on 1 car i have.
my 96 i have a scan tool and can actually see live real time best mpg.
each car is diff, due to :
tires.
motor
year
and that tranny, the 5sp beats them all , hands down.
each car has a sweet spot. Many Hybrids have the gauge built in.

the automatic uses 2kw of energy just sitting at a read light.
very wasteful .

i do this only so i know the motor is running right.

when the O2 gets slow (50k miles+) the mpg starts dropping.
most dont die ,they just get sluggish.

now the best of the best.
the plot the says a thousand words ( love em)

all i want to know is where cell .46 is on all cars i drive.
see?

btw ,there is a web site that shows you how to make an MPG gage that works on old OBD1 cars. OPENWare concept , all is free ,cept the blank circuit card ( dirt cheap)

it connects to power , tacho , vss and injector)
with this cheap guage one can plot the above , any way you want.

OBD1 , makes it hard but this design just skips the ECU communications completely.

rolling resistance of large tires has a large effect.

MPGuino: Open-source, DIY Fuel Economy Instrumentation for under $50 | Hypermiling, Fuel Economy, and EcoModding News - EcoModder.com

here is the free (save the PCB card) MPG guage. open design DYI.
works on all cars. but best on the dumb brick OBD1 cars.
89-95 trackers, sidekicks or Trackicks as some call it.

it is just a microcontroller ,that computes fuel flow over distance. nothing fancy.
it will show you.
what the best MPG is , in any gear.
what RPM and speed, puts you in that little window (labeled, .46 above).

some day maybe they will put the above graph in ever glove box.
there is also a free program that runs on a lap top.
and you connect the old defunct parallel printer port to the VSS and injector and tacho.
3 wires and ground and it too , computes MPG in real time.
but my first link , you can replace the ash tray with something more useful.

cheers.

Default thanks for data point. Im still tuning mine.

33 that is great.
yes, and automatics can be good with easy foot, the heavy foot just makes heat in torque converter. and OD really helps too.
me too, keep it a 60 , as it hates wind. the older kicks act more as sail than a car. Cant wait to try cruise for 80 miles a day, at 60mph. fun to see what she will do.

when im all done tuning. i will find the sweet spot on the OBD2 scan tool i have. it has live MPG log.
i will publish it , when done. all gears, sweet spot.

thanks for data points....
