Default retaining clips for soft top

I'm (finally) getting a replacement soft top for my Tracker. Many years ago, the tops of the 3 plastic 'retaining clips' on the tailgate (where the rod for the back window would snap into) broke off, so they were unusable. OK, so I drilled cup hooks into the tailgate and have been sliding the back window rod into place. A rather high tech repair. Anyway, I think I might not be able to do this with the new back window. Has anyone ever replaced these plastic clips, or if not, have any idea how to do a home repair that would allow the rear window rod to snap into place? Thanks...
