Default Defeating Nuetral/Park safety switch

92 sidekick w/auto tranny won't turn over, plenty of juice, relatively new starter. Is there an easy and/or practical way to defeat (temporarily or permanently) the nuetral/park safety switch to see if that's the problem? Thanks!

As a shot in the dark, try moving the shifter concurrently while trying to start it. Just have the emergency brake on and the brake pedal depressed. Good luck

I've tried everything, banging the shifter, shifting (using the emergency park release), rolling the car, banging the starter. Won't turn over.....

When you jump directly to the terminals of the starter what happens?

Haven't tried hotwiring the starter yet (it's been raining) but pretty sure it's OK since it was replaced only 2 years ago. I'll definitely be checking it as soon as it clears up a bit.

i take it , jumping (screwdriver tip jump) from main big red terminal on the starter solenoid
to the tiny "faston(tm)" terminal , the starter will crank the motor.
key off, and key in pocket , "safety" motor turns, engine will not start but this tests the starter well and good.

Yes?
if yes, the either repair the PN switch (expensive) or bypass it,

so how to do that.
see this:
Engine-will-not-crank-over
see photo at end.
do not unplug it or back up lights will be dead.
jumper the Black/yel, to the Black/red.

all this is backwards,
1: diagnose first
2: then repair.

if after doing all the above (no joy?), then try doing #1, with a voltmeter.
ask fo help.

ah, just put vm on the PN , black red , and if it dont go to 10v or more cranking then the problem is up stream. (towards the key switch)

Great info, although I don't see a "photo at end". Do you mean the schematic?? Regardless, I'll get at it after work.. Thanks!!

Just posted a photo of "The Creature" at the gallery (headlite has been replaced since this photo). Perfect candidate for jumpering around the PN switch rather than replacing it. Driving this til it dies....

all my schematics are either photo JPG or PDF doc.s
it can be downloaded, zoomed or printed, just alike all photos.

the start system is very Henry Ford, nothing magic and just 1 little wire.
from key to solenoid.

be happy you dont have keyless entry or encrypted key locks etc.

in case you missed it. here it is again.
just photo.

After all the discussion about the PN switch it ended up being the starter. Only a bit more than 3 years old, what's up with that!!??............Thanks to all.
