Default 94 Suz Sidekick 1.6L 16 valve

I just purchased this vehicle with 122k miles. No maintenance history other than the word of the guy I bought it from. The test ride was fine. Car ran great.

Problem: two days later, the car starts to stall when I coast to a light in neutral. Doesn't happen all the time. Check engine light comes on. Other than this, the car runs well. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

well , pull the code?
place a paper clip jump and let CEL lamp flash out the codes,.

DLC style 1

Check Engine Lamp stuck ON?

my guess is code 51.
if yes, can be fixed easy.

As you can see by the number of posts I have--I'm new to this forum. While I appreciate your quick response, you assume I have a clue what, where or how to "place a paper clip jump and let CEL lamp flash out the codes". Plus, "DLC style 1"?? No idea what that is either. Looks like a trip to the local mech. Thanks though.

I'm just a DOADO of of the SWO flavor working at NUWC which is a sub-command of NAVSEA. You know . . . Right?

huh.
you didnt know that underscores on this forum are links.sorry, that gets everyone.

click the above link and that will answer what you just asked. How to pull codes.

it's all legacy , EPA BS but we work thru it.
your old car if a federal model48 (not calif, issue) has a goofy mileage nag feature (not) and sets every 50k,
see lots of zeros"?

the EPA sticker under hood will disclose which car you have. if you see the words calif. or c.a.r.b anywhere on sticker
you car is devoid of such mileage nag , junk.

heck the sharpest cookie ever to post here ,had 1 post and was gone.
the rest of us dummies , just hack away.

You are, really ,is just a paper clip away.
(i hope)

and welcome to the snake pit !

Welcome to the forum sailor!
(my wife is a retired captain)

As you can see by my signature I have a similar vehicle,
I and a lot of other posters have gone through similar problems
with their Zuke's!
Do not dispair (Dreadnaught), it may cost some money,
but your vehicle may serve you faithfully for years to come.

First of all, the previous poster, (jtgh) is one of our resident guru's,
climb up his mountain and sit at his feet to gain wisdom.

Second, at 120Kmiles your Zuke is due for a "tune-up",
i.e.
new spark plugs
new spark plug wires
new distributor cap and rotor
new fuel, oil, and air filter
new timing belt, tensioner and water pump,
new fan belts

Get a manual, preferably the Factory Service Manual,
the Chilton's is a baby step in the right direction,
the Haynes is one giant step backward.

In future posts, give us more info about your Zuke,
a lot of us include that info in our signature file
e.g.
# of doors,
(if 2-door, hardtop or ragtop)
# of engine valves,
Carb or EFI (if EFI, throttle body (TBI) or Multi-port (MFI))
Auto or 5-speed (slushbox or stick) transmission
Air Conditioning
Emission controls, US(FED) or Calif, or non-US

Don't let my long winded reply scare you away,
we can get you full under sail in no time.
