I have a 1995 Geo tracker 16 valve 94K runs perfect love it but today the check engine light came on. I cleaned the EGR tube (had alot of carbon in it) and the thing will stall when i pull up on the valve. i did the jumper and came up with "51" EGR ehst sm i midding i tried to switch off the CEL switch but it just dims abit from one position to the other. where do i go from here?

Did you clean the port in the plenum as well as the tube? Port 1 as shown in last pic here:

EGR-repair-methods

From what I understand, the stall test can pass but the system can still be clogged enough to throw the code. Cleaning that port is crucial, both where the tube connects to it, & the inside. I was able to just take off the black throttle cover & loosen the 1st clamp on the intake tube & push the tube off to the front enough to get in there.

Also, did you reset the code? Or run the car at highway speed enough to let it reset itself? Might just need to drive it long enough that it runs (& passes) the test. hth

Default ports for OB II?

I did the paper clip jumper and it threw the 51 i decided to clear the code by pulling the dome fuse and noticed that there are two ports down by the fuse block i know that this is a 1995 not newer what gives? what could they be for? i messed around with the TPS awhile back but it just seemed to increase the cold idle more than before? (pulling the fuse didn't clear the code?) i don't want to take it to a mechnic cuz i don't have much $$ anyhow i will keep looking thank you

this is 95 and as such it has the calif. EGR thermo probe.
plugged into the top of the EGR main valve.

1: white is RWAL plug (antilock rear)
2: ALDL comm like for the unobtainable TECH1 scan tool

Calibrate it ! that is all you do or idle will never happen.
(pulling the fuse didn't clear the code?) ( that trick is 89/90 only)

CEL rules

Check Engine Lamp stuck ON?

EGR facts:
EGR-repair-methods

how to test the 95 (and all calif car) EGR thermo is there.
