Default howdy for canada!...heh! Alarm Problem...

I Bought a 1993 sidekick 2 doors softop auto 3 spd and 1.6l like a week ago for 1000$...

The problem is, when i bought it , there was two remote controllers with it ( a Blue one for the starter and a black one with two unknow buttons for the alarm...well, i think...) and the guy said he disconnected the horn because the alarms had always goes off randomly but i didnt mind it.

so, after some fiberglass repairs on the rockers ( god knows sidekick rockers are always rusty)

i wanted to start it, and it wouldnt....but i could hear the starter clicking...

after diner , i came back and tried again, and it started (with some clicking)...
and i did a little trip to recharge the battery, the next day, nothing...

The battery is new so i don't thinks its the battery...thats why i think the alarm is draining the juice somewhere...and i change the alternator 3 days ago....

when i look under the dash ( steering) i see a black box with nothing written on it but with some wires cut-off?????(oh yeah and theres a little grey button on it... pressed...but nothing happened....)

and on the passenger side, the ''Suzuki alarm system'' is hanging by the wires....

(The Wires are all messed up, im gonna take pictures later on)

is there any way to remove the alarm?

(oh and sorry for my english..im from Quebec....XD)

Bon Jour!

I do not know how to remove the alarm,
but I keep mine turned off (small switch on lower left side
of dash with an LED) because of the "random" problem.

I suggest you obtain a schematic of the Sidekick.
The Chilton's manual does have some schematics, but
probably doesn't cover the alarm.
Of course, our resident guru, jtgh, will suggest you buy
a Factory Service Manual instead of Chiltons,
(DO NOT buy the Haynes manual!)

Get a Digital Voltmeter (DVM). You will need it.
They can be had for under $20-US.

Did it start before you worked on the rocker panels?

Follow the link on jtgh's signature for troubleshooting
"no start" information.

there are 3 solutions:
1 find origional installer or alarm maker and get full documentation.
2 - Engine-will-not-crank-over
see last schematic and restore the black/red and black/yel path
3: remove the whole alarm and restore all the wires.

#2 is the fastest route (no pun)

cheers.

Im gonna put my nose under my dash tonight, and try to get the schematics tomorrow with a DVM.

Do you guys know what is the little black box under my steering? all the wires are cut, might that be the problem?

thanks.

black box, how little.

off hand id say bs after market alarm hacked in the ripped out.

do the wire go perfectly in to veh, main harness
or
are the spliced in , with some cheap crimps and the like.

OEM is ALL wire and ALL fancy connectors. nothing HACK looking.
that is the best clue.
no butt splices, no twisted wires and wire nuts, no cannable splices.

the only black box is RWAL , just above , the steering column, shaft as it passes thru fire wall.

alarms, remote starts,
why put car at risk,
and they never put it in neat.
