Default Few questions about my zuk

Hey guys,

I've a 94 Sidekick JX with 1.6 L4 16v. I've a few problems that I'm sure someone can help me out with.

1. Problem: My gas gauge is acting up. On the highway it goes up and then in the city it goes up and down. Not fast but sometimes past the 1/2way mark and so forth. I've full tank of gas and it doesn't climb all the way to the "F" mark.
Before the problem:
1. I used a full fuel system cleaner
2. Changed Oil
3. Pulled the gauge cluster to replace the bulbs.
4. I pulled out the drivers side tail light and there was this capped hose; Any idea what that does? There's a similar one in the engine near the FPR and that big canister thing.

Now, Problem 2.

My reverse lights dont work. Does anyone have a wiring schematic that I could have a looksy and try to mess with the wires?
And does anyone know where the reverse-light switch is located on the trans?
This was there when I purchased the vehicle.

Any ideas? I greatly appreciate your help!!!

The 3-volume factory service manual is excellent for this stuff. I bought all 3 on eBay for $20 for the set. The Haynes manual is a total waste

my sensos test page covers the fuel guage fully.

http://carfix.stufftoread.com/INJECT...mp-Ground1.jpg

2 black wires, rusty.
1 kills guage.
other kills pump.
must be perfect body grounds.
after fixing ground , here is guage test.
here
testing the fuel Gauge

capped hoses are:
unused, rear washer option, clear hose.
black hose, is Axle beathers, tranny breathers, so you can ford streams.

Back up
well you didnt say tranny so.. .......

MT, switch is well on top of MT as is connector
AT, switch is right side center line of AT, shift rod and is called PRNDL
as as some say PN switch.
it too has a blug.
tell tranny , i send schematic.

2nd to last photo here, shows how the ground should look.

Pump is dead ,now what
ty jtgh

If it's rusted through there & car is running, it must be grounded somewhere or neither the fuel pump or sender would work at all. The hose with the white cap on the end I believe is the rear axle breather. (Also seen in 2nd to last pic to the right of the ground.)

Rust through like that, I'd fix asap. If nothing else just fit a piece of galvanized in with screws & some roof sealer to keep the water out. That or cut out bad steel, weld in good ofc. Good chance you'll find connectors corroded... possibly the reverse light feed.

On the reverse switch, what tranny do you have?
hth

Fuzz

edit: lol he beat me to it
