Default 98 sidekick bogs down when I give it gas

OK I'm getting things done here. My 98 sidekick bogs down when you give it gas. I've gave it a basic tune up, cleaned the MAS and checked the fuel pump. All good.

I read another post on here about a clogged CAT. I think that could be it cause it smells like burnt oil and exhaust fumes when I drive it around.

heres my question...If I unbolt the CAT between the engine and the CAT will that check it or is that a bad idea?

The whole exhast system is bolted together so it looks easy but I dont want to damage anything.

It's the 16valve 1.6l

The light comes on when the key is turned and stays on while running.

It wont rev at all unless your going down hill or on flat ground. If any hill it wont go.

If you give it gas it will conk out. It kinda shakes a bit when it starts but will purr once it gets going.

OK well I removed the bolts at the head of the CAT. I just pushed the exhast pipe off to the side and started it up. No luck.

I cant get it to a place to put it on a machine like this cause I live in a hilly area so I'll never make it. I'm ready to give up. any ideas???

I cheack the fuel pump with the directions in your link. Pumps fine.
I unhooked the CAT and it still bogged down but not as bad in N.

I live way out in the country and the nearest AZ is bout 45 miles. Thats why I was whining..lol I cant drive it. I just found out I can rent the thing and return it for all my $$ back so thats what I'm going to do.

Thanks for yalls help.

Not yet on the EGR valve. Today I was looking at all my receipts to see what I spent so far. I noticed I didn't install the distributer roter. So I went and put it in. I unhooked the battery to do this so the CEL is gone while the engine is running. Does that matter?

Do I push down on the top of the EGR valve? I tried pinching the hoses and pushing it from below and above no difference in idol. Idols just fine..no stall in other words.

Been out driving tonight since nobody is on the road at this hour. No light so far. Since the full tune up shes running a little better but still not good enough to drive a busy road. Hope the light comes on. Cant wait to get this thing running good.

I'm going to clean the EGR main valve tomorrow if the CEL light doesnt come on by then.

too bad you didnt pull the codes before you reset.

get car over 48mph, and do steady cruise for 5min.
then do some coasts down a hill 50mph then drop the gas pedal.
this will cook off both EGR test.
i just did this , 2 days ago on my 96, p0400 set and now one could fixed.
so after selling it to me.
see hole 1, must be fully free on all 96-98 kicks
no reduction allowed. 9mm pistol brush fits perfect

edit:
All the aircleaner stuff , might need moving. .. no big deal.
step 1: front plastic tubes clear of main alum. air tube. (obvious) as is maf. (clean it too)
step 2: unbolt alum main tube.
3: loosen clamps at TB (throttle body) boot
4: remove front side of air tube main hose , this is PCV fresh air i think. at Alum tube end only.
5: pull tube free, and rock it to left.
6: jamp 9mm brush into hole 1. jab , jab A little carb cleaner, sure. bingo thru , now stroke it. 5 times. done.

5 min, to get to it , 1 second clean.

second time blind folded , to see if you can beat my time.

hahahahah

i can do the whole thing in 30 min. end to end.

hint, dont pull any water hoses. ok?

which are they, yes, the ones that dont get hot when engine is hot.
