Default Factory Cruise Control Diagnosis Now I am at Wit's end...Pls Hlp

I moved this to start a new post, from the one I started on trans switches.

95 Sidekick JLX 4Dr, 4Wd, 4Spd Auto, 1.6L 16V
Cruise control won't engage, factory unit (rare option)

I have partially gone through the signals supplied to the 18 pin connector, got to the stalk mounted switches, all bad, cleaned them up, silicone greased them (mostly to hold the little ball in place). all works good, but still no cruise, so I am making a table of my measurements on each pin.

Dam it's a complicated affair, I remember a cruise control as a speedometer-like vacuum modulator, with a release clutch, life was simpler then...

I think I have both VSS signals, as the ECM would get mad if the speedo one were bad, and I know the TCM gets mad if the tranny one is bad. Besides I just finished making a new tranny VSS, and it works good.

THIS IS STILL AN OPEN ISSUE, BUT I AM WORKIN' ON IT...
I will edit this first post when I get it cured then you will know...

The Cruise Module is up above the driver's feet, with an 18 pin connector, and here are the signals:
Cruise Control Module signals
Outputs
1. Actuator motor +
2. Actuator clutch solenoid +
9. Actuator motor -
10. Cruise lamp current sink
11. Cruise ON

Inputs
3. Clutch pedal not depressed + (Open if Auto Trans?)
5. Brake depressed +
8. Cancel switch closes to common
12. Low if brake off
13. + during crank
14. Accel sw close to common
15. Set sw close to common
16. VSS from speedo reed sw
17. TCM connection (signal?)

Misc.
4. Common for control switches
6. Common for TCM, & Cruse actuator
7. Connection to TCM & ECM (signal?)
18. Ground

I will now chart what I get on each pin, hope I can do it with the plug in the module...
more later, maybe tonight, I donno.

Thanks JTGH, I will study these for tomorrow's attack. I must go sharpen the bandsaw.
Hey, I used to have a cutting torch! My brother took it away from me, never told me why...
The schematic one looks especially interesting, I am salivating over it now.
Thanks again, you are great!

i knew you would.

your brother is smart guy ,protecting you,

hope dose a nice cruise soon.

i think most of those inputs are for safety.
cruise inputs.

even ,some one moving the shifter . in cruise.

i wonder if there is a self test. my GM book shows no 95 cruise.
so maybe someone has a real Suzuki 95 FSM and can look.

cheers.

The starting point, the cruise master control, is a lighted momentary button. When pushed, an orange light comes on and stays on even when released. Below that button is another momentary push button that turns it off.

It is very hard to understand the way it is drawn. I have that as the first drawing below. Then I redrew it with industry-standard symbols, 2nd dwg.

Then I rearranged the drawing, 3rd one, and you can now recognize it as a simple stop/start circuit, with a diode as a clever way of providing the "holding contact". Now you can see that the way they drew it is confusing, as they drew normally open as normally closed and vice-versa, so the 4th dwg can be understood.

Thanks again JTGH, I think your schematic is just fine, seems to match my hardware.

More to come...

Oh Boy, back in the breech again...

I am redrawing the cruise schematic to make it easier to read, inputs on the left, outputs on the right, properly shown momentary contacts (not shown as toggle switches) etc. But I ran into a problem, I have two schematics from JTGH (everything comes from JTGH, and I thank him, as we all should) but they disagree.
1. The latest one, which is drawn better, and clearer, from JTGH's post #3 (above), and
2. The schematic from a 96 Tracker group of schematics.

They have different pin numbers that the signals arrive on at the cruise module.
My wire colors match the ones on the 96 Tracker, but I have a 95 Sidekick.

Some of the switches are drawn "open" on one schematic, "closed" on the other, does anybody have any info to help me sort this out? Soon I will trace them all out anyway, but it doesn't hurt to ask. And as I recently learned from JTGH, it CAN hurt NOT to ask...

Thanks, all

Well, I am low on heater fuel for the garage, so today I redrew the schematic, maybe this will be of interest to someone.

I got my info from two schematics, as I described in the last post, and if anyone wants to assist, please do. I put as much info on my schematic as I could. The reason I redrew it is because I was trying to make it easier to read, but it got kinda crowded, so you be the judge whether I made it easier or not.

Thanks for any helpful comments, I need all the help I can get...

I will write back as I progress, but here are a couple things I am suspicious of:
1. Even though I rebuilt the P/N and Backup switch, it still starts in gear...(jumped by previous owner ???)
2. I changed the speedo, using a 1993 Geo "MPH" speedometer, and had to wire the VSS with soldered jumpers, because it didn't line up with the terminals on the existing '95 Suzuki "Km/h" cluster. So am I getting speedometer VSS signal? I get no CEL light, except at key ON, before startup.
3. I just made my own Trans VSS sensor, which seems to satisfy the TCM now, but is there anything about it that affects the Cruise Control Module? ("CCM"? - why not, we got lots of 3-letter modules, what's another acronym among friends?)

These and other mysteries will be investigated in upcoming episodes... (add drama here)
Sorry for the corny words, my TelePrompTer was down...

Saturday, still cold in garage so did other things. Expecting blizzard Sunday, so probably put it off even more.
Sorry for those following it, but I have so many inside projects too.
