well i pulled a code 12 which i know is nothing, so now my dad wants to check the valves..

When the cover is off and as your turning the crank to TDC are you supposed to hear like a little air leak coming from the head when its coming up to the compression and exhaust stroke?

NO , BUT
all cars if you put your ear to the TB horn (throttle body) air horn, you can infact
hear valves leak a tiny tiny bit. (im to deaf to hear it today)

do a compression test, harbor freight sells the guage for $10 +-

are spark plugs at 21 foot lbs. (IIRC) never over tighting them , it is aluminum.

id use a rubber/plastic tube connected to hear ,and move it around and try to find source.
head gasket? bad?
remove spark plug wire. place hose there. crank for leak sound.
or hand crank it (key off please) with 17mm wrench. on crank snout
cheers

good find , i think.

the comp test came out good, i called an auto machine shop and asked them, they said it supposed to do that, its just the air being forced into the rings or something like that,

but anyways im going to get you some picture of the TB, engine, and everything else, that way it will help both of us out

yes dash pot on rear.
the cap looks like sold steel or alum. cap, so id not pull that.
that being the case the mitchell book does say to adjust the idle at the throttle plate stop on 89/90
it might be correct. Im just shy because my haynes says to do that on 91-95 and that is wrong. for sure. ( id do not have full FSM on 89 ) wish i did.

so you are ok on that. best i can tell.
no leaks.
dash pot retracted
hot.
no A/C on.
set idle to 800 with stop screw.
if ISC fails, to regulate idle then
isc is bad (dirty or?)
or
ECU is not operating ISC ( pull conn. on isc to prove this )

your mech is right the vc is removed ,i see photo now.
the air leaks past rings, and echos up th oil drains in head. all cars.
i thought you were standing back 3 feet and hearing it hands in pocket.
sorry.
that is correct , you are listening and quesitoning everthing, a good practice.

cheers

i will try to package up a full procedure for your idle and send it this afternoon.
happy trails.

the idle bleed is missing on 89/90 for sure, mine is loc. below yours ,
so that plug is the cross drill hole for the old style, iAC ports.
do not remove it.

ok well everything looks good until the part about pulling the conn.. off ISC,, if you look in the pic where the TPS is and the connector, the ISC and TPS are in one.

What can i do about that

I will look at the page right now
