89 doesn't have a pot, it just uses two switches, one for idle and one for WOT.

Also which pins on the TPS get the positive wire and which pins get the negative?

if i were to unplug the ISC i would have to unlplug the TPS to becuase there all on connector

What is a pot and where is it at

pot = potentiometer or variable resistor, this is the TPS on later models. 89 models only have a TPS that consists of the two switches.

o ok... i got another question one of you might know before i even try adjusting the TPS.. i took mine off along time ago when i took the motor apart, i dont remember the way to put it back on, is there supposed to be tension, to where when you turn the TPS it opens up the throttle plate, or is there not supposed to be tension when its being turned?

so my 89 schematic is BS? this car USA, other non USA cars are diff.
this data is exact to this usa car, Chilton, FSM and Mitchell all correlate.

http://carfix.stufftoread.com/INJECT...9-90schem1.jpg

dang. !
or is this a USA versas other country issue. UK 89 NOT EQUAL TO USA ? can be...
no one, ever tells where on earth car is running.
but this guy said. California. (a rare post with location, THANKS)

so i looked up pn of USA 89 and 91, and the TPS has the same PN.
so , UK kicks are different. way diff. as are sammi's

i looked up the early EU vitaras and yes, the type1 EFI are diff PN then ours
your type 2/3 same as ours on TPS.
depends on type, year, and market.

Janenford

yes , it is under tension ( for 2 reasons) throttle and Dashpot .
and when put it back it must be indexed correctly.
the titties of the body dogs , must insert in the tps dogs. that is 1st step in manual.
if removed. ( if you need that write up , i have it.)
next:
then calibrated.
that was the first link is sent.

basically:
set the Dashpot (defeat it) so it is retracted. IT MUST NOT BE TOUCHING THE THROTTLE.
place the feeler guage as stated. 0.016" 16 thou
rotate the TSP (screws loose) so that max ccw (see switch open , not the pot )
the move it back back so it just barely closes the switch (low ohms).
tighten the screws. on the tps
now do the go , no go test with the feeler guages.
.020 is no go (switch opens)
.012 is GO, (switch is closed) (this shows you have up to 8 thou , over travel)

that is out of the manual. its 91 but your TPS is identical to mine.

i you look i have the factory procedure ,linked.
but not the install/ remove, i figure most can align the indexes.

ask questions.
it is a simple device but must be calibrated correctly or it will make you pay.
no idle
or dead spot or worse off idle.

Maybe theres a difference between Sidekicks and Trackers? The information I have came from someone (in California) who fitted MS on an 89. It sounds quite plausible, early Swifts and MX5s have same set up. There are no UK EFI models before around 92.

nfo is correct
just checked, Chiltons online, and Mitchel and all show normal (USA norm) TPS.
so my drawing is good to go. but not so much in EU.

we have on EU drawings here at all,
we also have public library db, here, and only USA data.

the only strange thing is the idle setting on this vintage. contradictory as heck.
where is idle bleed adjust on this year? or do they actual move the throttle stop
which in every 91 to 2009 manual says Never do.
cheers.

Default fuse panel on 89

need full schematic ? on this year, have it for ECU and fuse bank.

try inserting the Diag jumper and reporting the DTC errors stored.

that is always a good starting point.

first time post of dwg below.

black smoke.
is ECU flashing out code 12 ,with Diag Jumper (fuse) inserted into fuse panel per above.?

are all sensors plugged in , and not wires mangled.
is the fuel pressure at spec, my pump page has spec.

all vacuum lines intact.
no cracks in the exh. manifold (no air is allowed to get near O2 , dont you know)
(cracks are any leaks whatsoever cause by , including gaskets)

is the ECT , correct does it read the correct value at room temp (ambient) and at hot engine? (its just a thermistor)

and last,
the ecu can go to limphome mode any time IT THINKS, it cant control Fuel mixtures.

Failsaft now what?

see symptom #1

cheers
