Problem, and solution
Hey all...
I was having an issue with acceleration after the engine hit about 1800 rpm ('94 soft-top 1.6 8v). It would begin to feel like it was cutting out, or starving for gas, or missing on a cylinder, and it only was getting about 20 miles a gallon, which I know is way low for these cars.
So I started working on it... Checked the codes... flashed normal. I gave it a full tuneup... nope. Changed the fuel filter... nope. Checked the IAC... worked fine. Cleaned out the TBI... nope. Then I ran a wire down the bottom port of the EGR valve... Hmmm... felt like there was some blockage that I poked through. Bingo! This thing runs like new. I just did this yesterday, so I don't know what kind of mileage change I'll see, but it is SO much better to drive now.
Thought I'd share that in case someone else is having the same problem.
(BTW, this site is great for giving me enough info to tinker on this car. I used to do all my own auto work until the cars got too complicated for me to work on.)
