Default Another stupid question - tire slime

Hi, can anyone please tell me if products such as instant tire repair are safe to use and do they really work. This is the stuff you would put in a tire to stop small air leaks.

The reason I'm asking is that my right rear tire will probably not come off unless I break the lug nut studs clean off. (some ass--le thought it was funny to over tighten the lug nuts and yes he did get fired for it)

Come spring time I will try to take off the tire and if I brake anything , then I'll have all summer to repair it . But in the mean time I don't like refilling my tire every two days.

Has anyone used this sort of product and does it work?

front or rear? details help.
use it , but if it congeals it will go out of balance. but it does work in a bad jam.
far from home....

the front is easier, rear harder.
buy the stud now. get at least 3 spare. have spec. if you need it.

on the front wait till you feel like a brake job or the 7.5k bearing inspection.

then break them off, then with front hubs off, press them back in.
I had 2 that way, it was rust not over tightened, (how would you know?, sorry person was fired with no proof, that is really bad and sad)

I always use antisieze on the stud, for 35 years.
there is a SAE table for correcting for this, for those saying not to.....

then it will never sieze again.
btw , good question.

also, heat can help take it off )100 ft/lbs max. CCW.!!! counter..clock,,,,wise ....
and if hot , while still hot, spray your fav. penetrating lube.
let cool and try again, the cooling creates a vacuum in side threads sucking in lube.
also smack the end of the acorn nut. to help. shock can crumble rust in side.

also take chistle and chistle off end of acorne head (i just did one) then you can apply more
penetrating oil from both sides.

if this is a will , there is a way.

the key is patence and determination.
the gorrilla almost never wins.

cheers

i just put new rims and tyres on and had to fix some studs its cake!! put stud in get one nut that goes thru, no pretty cap on it, tighten then put back together. try wax, heat it up like jtgh says then rub wax on the back of nutz, it will penitrate the threads and lube and fill. but dont tell tomany ppl bout this trick:-D

Sorry about not enough info.

It's the rear right side.

Don"t feel sorry for the kid as he admited to turning up the air on the impact driver as far as it would go and also admited he had done this for a laugh. He thought it was really funny. Ha Ha He also stated that if the nuts were to tight for me to take off I would have to come back. (more buisnes)

I will try the penitrating oil and a little heat when things warm up some.
Wich would you suggest during removale , hand or air tools?( I got a bad back)

Thank you

Sounds to me like the shop should be doing it & buying you new studs. Why aren't they?

The shop managed to loosen 3 of the four tires but felt that the last one was going to be real iffy and didn't want to brake off the studs and tie up my tracker. (I got real demanding) So I cut a deal------two new alu rims which they had. I figured it was a good deal if I could remove the tire myself with out braking the studs.

Please don't tell me I was wrong.

Well, I guess that's judgement call on your part, not a wrong or right thing.
As far as the goop, I've used fix-a-flat before & it does work ok if the leak is in the tread area. If it's high on the sidewall or from the stem it prolly won't help. & Yeah it makes a mess in there. Just be sure to drive a bit after you put it in so it spreads good. I've used the plug kits on bigger holes too (nail hole size). I use an electric impact for that kind of stuff. My owners manual ('96) calls for 60 ft lbs torque on the lugs, I've heard other ppl say 65.
Not sure what the SAE spec jtgh mentioned is, guessing it's somewhat higher but I've never used anti-seize on 'em. The thought kinda scares me lol, but he would know better than me no doubt!
