Question 97 Suzuki stalls when warm

I drive my suzi, into town(about 10mins) and then go to a store and then another, but usually when i go to start her again, she stalls, it takes me pressing on the gas and break and making sure the road ahead of me is clear before i take off. I changed the thermostat recently because she wasn't giving me heat, she still doesnt until i am driving down the highway.

it is a 1997 suzuki sidekick, 1.6L, auto, 4x4. 4door

I have the stuff for the oil change, and I checked the hoses last week.
I know you are going to ask if i have dont a FULL tune up, but I need a good idea as to what that is, new oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs,

what else can a girl do?
not broke but not rich you know.

thanks.

ok
sounds to me, stalls when warm, but is not really warm.
the engine must warm up to at least 180F.
what is outside temp. -40?
never mind its"32°F | 12°F google is my friend.
so what time is it when you do these trips at 32 or 12F?

if your car is not warming up. then the car will run rich.
if too rich it will die /and/or flood. and foul the spark plugs and roast the CATCONV.

you said pressing gas, just 5% or wide open throttle(unflood = WOT)
a tune up is rotor,+cap+wires+plugs.

no giving heat at idle? , after warming up car.?
really ?
if it is extemely fridged outside, many way up north block half rad core with card board.
like below 0 degress F. is fridged or colder. -18C.

the thermostat must be the 180 def or more like 195 up north.
82C is min, stat on all suz. sorry stat = thermostat.

the thermostat has a special rubber seal.
if it is missing the car will never run right.

there is this tool , called a IR gun. InfraRed thermal gun.
it is sold here for $10 but can be rented for same.
you point it at the stat housing or the cab core hoses to see if your car is reaching
full temperature.

the dash gauge has no numbers so it is useless.
but is good to see if it rises and stays risen and does not drop at idle or such times.
normal and stay normal.
normal i near center, or a tad below.

when the car wont start.
it can be for 3 reasons (your case)
loss of fuel. NO as you are unflooding to get it to start.
too much fuel ( ecu adds fuel based on coolant temperture ) which is wrong, my guess.
loss of spark, no again, cuz it starts with heavy foot.

that my best , but id get the coolant temps checked out.

that thermostat

your correct stat is , oem, std. 17600-60813 or 60823 for 88C hotter.
that is the correct suzuki pn.

now if you buy after market stat, and the person selling it gives you a stat for
the early 90's suzukis, it will leak and never REGULATE.
getting the correct stat is hard because of the sellers ignorance.

when you stall , and it restarts, do you see a lot of black smoke.
that is flooding and it stinks like the unburned gas it is.

hope that helps you.

While we find your parts, please enter your ZIP Code at CSK Auto

many stores sell the STAT with out the special seal.
i believe you need this seal.

solve the heat problem first !!! IMO.

cheers.
