Default A Clunk Question

Recently, a clunk from the front end has started showing up when I take off from a stop. Not every time but quite a bit. Out of curiosity, I engaged the 4 wheel drive (hubs not locked) and no clunk.

So....obviously the clunk is coming from the front hubs. Ok now does anybody have any idea or guess what might be going on with the hubs? Thanks.

Sounds like manual hubs, correct?

Could be your half-shafts == have you serviced them? I'm guilty or not doing so either! Are the boots torn or dirty?

Place this in your comment if you want help: YEAR, MAKE, MODEL, ENGINE, TRANS, MILEAGE, AUTO/MANUAL HUB(if 4x4)

Yes, they are manual hubs and embarrassingly I have to admit that in the 6 years I have owned it, I have never serviced them. Problem is the Tracker has been the most reliable car I've ever owned. Other then tune up, oil changes and break pads recently, I haven't had to spend any money on it. I mean zero money, honestly.

One thing of note, it takes a pliers to lock the hubs. As I recall, in the begining after I bought it, I was able to do this by hand.
