Default accelarator problems: any ideas?

Need serious help here..

Have a Geotracker 1991 model in Ghana West Africa.. am struggling with a nagging problem... so need to know what to do... no one seems to know here.

When I press the accelerator, it revs up, but it takes a long time for the rev to come down... so I am driving in a high rev... for no reason at all, even when I leave my foot from the pedal...

What is happening...

There was an electrical problem in the fuel pump earlier which was "fixed", typical of Ghana, using another piece of wire and taking the electricity from another source... can this cause the problem?

Help!

welcome !
ouch , hot wire bypasses. that can cause a fire so easy with fuel pumps.
a rolling death trap if in an accident or something just breaks in the fuel supply..

you country allows any of the 99 models to be imported.
so what does this look like on engine fire wall.

read body tag

if your car is 8vavles and is EFI then:

it has an illegal air leak into the induction
or
the cold fast idle dash pot servo is sticking full open all the time.
or throttle spring broke.
or thrtoole cable jammed.
or? Lots of reasons.

there, that is a start.

your market code , FAEnnnn24 ( see 24 loc. this is the market code)

cheers

Thanks, cannot check the car right now, its almost midnight here, will post details in the morning... as requested...

But car came from the US to Ghana in 1997, so the market code must be American anyways! This place is like the end of the road for all cars of the world, the second and third hand capital of the world! But lots of interesting cars around too...

However, the problem starts when you need repairs, as the workshops are not many, and the technicians instead of learning more, try to make a buck from what they are comfortable on...

I just sent in the car for a non-start, and had to change my clutch plates! Its that random! anyways, the clutch plate was also due, so I did it anyways! Interestingly, the parts also come second hand!

Anyways, I am no expert on car mechanics, but can understand what you are talking about... need enough information to do things on my own, or to direct the workshop technicial, as armed with a little more information, I will probably be better than him!

Will post more tomorrow morning on the car details! will take a few pics and post it too!

the car can have a vin number. top dash or on drivers side of dash with drivers door open. look on end for VIN.
if it does, then N.American car.
if not it has that tag,
with out ID , i can help you. no , n.american cars very all over the map.

carbs, EFI, 8v. 16valve, and even diff, engines , way more choices.

yours is a wildcard, id it.

cheers.

2CNBJ18U5L(1)6227212 is the VIN number (I guess) found it on the driver side dashboard side of the car... not sure about the L or the 1 in the middle

It is a 1990, not a 1991, found that from the seatbelt... at least that is what I was told to look at by one person.

I see that there is like a 1-2 inch play on the accelerator pedal, and when I rev it up, say it revs to about 4000 - 5000 rpm, it slowly comes back to close to 2000, then it is very slowly coming down to 1,500 rpm and sometimes even revs up by itself closer to 2000... is this natural?

Maybe I should just tighten the throttle cable?

Thanks for all this help bro!

and oh, before I forget, I noticed since the hotwiring, done at the red cable at the pump, the car does not shut down immediately upon switching off, it lingers for like 5-10 seconds and then shuts down...

Is this connected?

Dr. Kevorkian on the making,

I don't think that's is causing this problem but am sure is causing the problem below.

am new to this trucks, if is fuel injected the fuel pump is controlled by the computer, if is hot wired is bypassing the computer and still have fuel in the cylinder after ignition is off, dieseling.

I would guess a sticking IAC, idle air controller might be you acceleration problem, or a device that function the same!
if you said there's slack on the cable.

no tag ,no guess.

there are counties and local people that can order any (!) car made.
any market ,any year, any where. " no EPA , no NTHSA" bliss.

guessing his config is useless. ( try a photo of engine, better a photo of the TAG)
top down on engine.

efi ,carb , smog? who knows.

thats and 8v suzuki EFI , throttle body injection system
Left had drive car too, i see. helps knowing that.

ID. VIN number is on left side of dash ,open drivers door, see end of dash now, see vin LABLE? (adjacient to the left vent to the left of the speedo)
NO
OPEN HOOD, LOOK ON fire wall to left (drivers perspective) see that tag posted above.
either you have VIN tag, or you have chasssis tag.
one or the other,
and by the way , all parts suppliers will insist on one or the other , or you will get the wrong parts.

so before you work on any car, get the tag data and write it down or photo it.

center photo is, egr and cold start fast idle VSV (vac.solenoid valves)
right is photo of TPS/injector plug (large) other ?

my web page has
how-to-find-EFI-parts
see 8v , click them
