Default JDM engines

I just bought a 94 Tracker and it needs an engine. Was thinking about a JDM engine from Japan and was wondering if anyone has had any experince with them?

sure they are low mile engine out of JAPAN. ( read there how we test it page first)
just be sure of warranty.
and how much it costs to send engine back, if no good. (some hide price ,say free ship)
that is bunk ,it aint free. but effectively hides the return price ( tricky dogs huh?)
keep eyes wide open.

lets say you check compression sitting on a pallet. ( i'd do that for sure)
and it had a dead cyl. ( one person reported that here)

I use a spare bell housing off s 5speed to mount the starter to a pelleted engine.
bingo , full Compr.test. with out and then with. 1 teaspoon of oil in cyl.
I also check oil pressure , sparks out, spinning engine at full starter speed.

cheers.

id find a local wrecking yard, that has a good warranty. Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market
or get a rebuilt short block ,or rebuild yours. (many cross country , google them)
then do a valve job (not expensive when you consider total costs)

ask the local machine shop how much to rebuild your , dropped off block.
worse case (assuming no freeze damage) you might need another used crank or one that was rebuilt.

the JDM can be be the fastest fix, if it's any good, if not?, its longer. and more expensive , with shipping.
just a crap shoot. as anything used is.

cheers.

there are always 3 choices. rebuild yours, used, new.
it think suz still sells short blocks.
finding good used parts is more art than science. (adding tests, helps)

you can get a complete engine for under $250.00 with a 30 days warranty.

Or place a wanted ad on the local Craigslist, that's what I did but people were asking too much money for them so am in the process to rebuild mine

There are plenty of used engines out there. Most have way over 100,000 miles on them. I was just wanting some feed back on the JDMs. I have found two low mileage engines at salvage yards and will call about them tomorrow. Since I work at a Chevy dealership I might even buy a rebuilt one from GM. Have to check and see if they offer one. If the connecting rod had not gone through the block I would just rebuild mine.

They have a rebuilt one for a littel over 3k. I have several "JEEP" friends who have purchased engines from them and they have had no problems.

i bet his GM discount (love to know that$) will be hard to beat, with shortblock even better.

or convert to 3 cyc engine, metro ECU might run it ok, LOL.
pull rocker lifters on dead cy., put in dummy rod ,piston weight on crank rod journal.
and let her rip.

i love folks that have real wrecking yards and with engines.

but begging on craigs is my craft. love that.
