I am looking to find a scan tool for a 1994 Suzuki Sidekick it is a 16v 5-speed 4x4 model. It has had an engine light on for sometime and runs very rough seems like it is flooding out. I am very mechanically inclined I would like to get my problem solved it currently gets 16MPG on the highway. I figured it might be cheaper to go this route rather than having the stealership run the codes and then relay them to me?
Thanks,
Brandon
no after market scan tool can read suz. obd1
(except the unabtainable Tech1 the dealers use)
see my blick page. on sig. below
the 16mpg tells me car is in limp home mode. ECU has found gross faults.
the fed48 cars have a nag light that comes on at 50k and 80 and permutations of same.
all you need is the paper clip, shown on my page.
EGr STUCK OPEN.
CRACKED EXH MAN.
and avoid any stealerships with out TECH1 , HED BE GUESSING JUST LIKE YOU.
i have a fast sensor test page
but first make sure engine is sound.
then no induction leaks.
no exhaust leaks.
EGR is not stuck open or dead.
is this problem hot and cold.
the jumper is next to the battery , a rubber covered lid on pure white connector.
guessing 6 pins.
i have full photos of it on my page and the techiques.
cheers.
Hot and cold yes sir. Their is an exhaust leak but this problem started prior to the leak, it is near the muffler and the manifold is not cracked. It kinda sounds like a john deere 2 popper tractor pop puuup po poppo. It is in sad shape I will take a look at your sight and check things out. It has gotten to a point where it is not even fun to drive and it is super annoying .
Thanks again!
Brandon
please be aware of this. it is complex but I will try to explain it as a brief.
the exh. leakiing up stream of the cat (from honeycomb to exhaust valves) will throw the o2 lean. the ECU then says OMG throw tons of fuel it is max lean.
Id will never now how much and guessl (narrow band sensors stink)
then what can happend next is like tossing a coin,
the 02 sensor has this little weakness. if the black carbon if the huge rich mixuture
covers the o2 completely , it then sees , OMG , too rich (i see no oxygen).
but the oxygen is still there. (crack, leak, etc)
so now you have this crazy ECU , going MIN, MAX, MIN, MAX.
the cycles are NOt PREdICTABLE by any man on earth ,nor the ECU.
try unplugging the o2 front and (ignore codes as you are now) and the ECU
will at least , revert ot its Intrinsic AFR (air fuel ratio).
this is 14:1 and is good enough to drive with.
and consistant.
if by chance you have an other first order failure and the intrinsic AFR is off some where illegal, i can not predict the results.
how is that?
EFI system , can not work with leaks in the exhaust or the intake.
those are first order problems and must be delt with ruthlessly,
Slam bam fixed.
engine must pump air perfect.
no leaks.
all sensors good in EFI.

success.
I will try unplugging the front O2 and report back, I agree I do need to fix the leaks it is annoying also, and as u said can make things worse.
