Escudo -92 G16A cold start problem!

I have an automatic Escudo -92, engine G16A. For about half a year I have had problems with starting the car. When I start the engine, it seems to start well but after a second or so the engine starts to run rough (engine 'shakes'), RPM drops and it stalls. When I restart the engine, it runs slightly rough for a few seconds, but then starts well. This only happens when the engine is cold. If the engine is hot it starts well. Otherwise the car runs perfectly.
I'm in Africa and the mechanics here seem to think the fault is with the spark plugs. The car has been recently serviced (air clean, new oil filter, filter comp. fuel, spark plugs, also changed engine oil, brake fluid). I doubt that the problem is with the spark plugs as they have been changed. What could be causing this problem??
