Hi again
I have a 93 tracker 1.6 w/180 trans 2wd. w/problems. here we go
When on cold take off the trans wont shift for a couple miles a hi rpm
and it hasto be started off in 1 or 2 because if it is started in 3, as soon as it shifts to neutral, it drops out of gear then i need to drop to 2 then back to three.
when warm i still need hi rpm to shift 1 to 2 it just does it sooner.
I have replaced mod
ulator and filter .Mod has vacuum to it. Any easy ideas or is it crap
i have lots of questions. 3sp auto.
i will comment below in red.
does tranny slip. are you getting FLARE? false neutrals?

does it shift perfect in 1 selected. and there is no slipping in 1st , engine seems anchored to rear axle?
same for 2 selection on console , accel, in 1st move lever to 2 and play there
awhile, does it feel anchored in 2nd or does it slip or fail with load.?

you have 1 to 2 late upshifts a with both light gas, and heavy foot both ?

bad governor?
and if true, no 4wd makes changing far easier.
in the book:
3L30.
most slippage is all bad news. a list of things very diff. to change.
cept low pump pressure, due to bad filter (clogged up)
if all you have is shifting at the wrong point and there is no slippage or flare.
then a governor might fix it. ( it sets basic shift points)
"The Governor is connected to the output shaft and regulates hydraulic pressure based on vehicle speed. It accomplishes this using centrifugal force to spin a pair of hinged weights against pull-back springs. As the weights pull further out against the springs, more oil pressure is allowed past the governor to act on the shift valves that are in the valve body which then signal the appropriate shifts."
comments.
gov sets shift point based on tail shaft rpm (veh, speed)
kick down delays shift with heavy foot
and vac,. mod delays upshifts with heavy load.

Yesit does have false neutral. I f i start out in 3 it willl shift 1 then 2 then drop to neutral i then drop shifter down to 2 then back up to 3 then it will shift
1,2 flare (flare = total loss of torque to rear wheels, slip is something else)
fsm:
oil pressure low ( can be measured and there is a stall test and all to do on car)
band 404 , lose adjustment
valve body sealing ball , dropped out.
3rd clutch pistion seals 320,321 ,leaking.
ditto--------------centrifugl ball, dropped out.
ditto--------------pistion 322 , cracked or broken
input shaft bushing worn.
