Default 94 Geo Tracker 4-wd, 2-door HT

I want to disconnect the speedo cable from the transfer case, so as to not build up the miles on the speedo, when I'm towing 4 wheels down.
Do I need to "cap" the SPEEDO connection at the tranfer case, so nothing falls out/off? or can I just leave the connection open?
I'm aware- to have the T/C in Neutral & and the Manual in 3rd, while towing.

no, you need to put the T/C in "N", then it wont turn the transmission.
