Default oil light blinks

hey guys, I have a 95 kicker 16v with a 5 speed. Today while I was coming home from work the oil light started to blink between 1000 and 2000 rpm. It did this for about 15 min or entil it was good and warm. After that it was fine. It ran fine no diffrence at all. The engine was quiet not like when she gets toward the low mark on the dip stick. When I got home I check the oil andit was full and clean. So I decied to take it for a stroll and it did the same thing. What do you think is wrong with my kicker????

Check the wiring to the oil pressure switch (nr oil filter). I wouldn't drive it until the fault is found. If you do have an oil pressure problem your engine will be killed very quickly.

see if you can get hold of an oil pressure guage. it threads into the same hole as the oil pressure switch. measure at warm idle & at 4000 rpm. should be 47-61 psi at 4000rpm. if its good, change the switch. if its low, you may have some serious issues... oil pump or excessive bearing clearance..
good luck

Oil pressure gauge will need an M10x1.0 fitting.

Frist of all thank you for all the help and sorry for not responding sooner. So I priced an oil pressure guage and a new oil sensor/sending unit it was cheaper to just put a new sensor in it, so i went ahead and did it. Took it for a good test drive and all beter. Well at least it was last night. Today on my way to work it blinked one mabey two times. The way home was way worst, it was blinking but no where as bad as before. When I change the sensor I checked the wire it looked fine. I'm not sure what quite to do, I have talked with a few people and they said to pull the pan and clean the oil screen. what do you guys think.....

all above +
stop driving it. ( it talking to you , see ? rent is way cheaper than a new engine)
it has low oil pressure.
measure it. with a real gauge.
it it is bad, find out why, save the engine.

pull valve cover look for loose cam caps, and anthing suspisious. like heave slugging....

could be a bad oil pump or bypass valve stuck open.

prove it , fix it , save an engine.
pan is far more difficult to pull , but we have tricks for that.

here. ask.

Thanks for all the info I think I will have to get a oil gauge that I can put on my dash and check the pressure while i'm driving. I have measured the pressure while it was in the drive way and it was around 55 psi. But my oil light still comes on when I am driving. What do you think is the prob or where would you start. Also is the front diff the only thing in the way to pull the pan? I was reading on auto zones website that you have to pull down part of the steering. Is there any way around that.My front diff is not in my car right now, I am in the process of finding a cheap 3rd member. Bad things happen when you push the gas pedal to hard. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok,
55 is good, i have spec for engine, and sender. will get it tonight., or tomorrow,
I have full fsm at home.
lets reduce the possibliites straightaway.
what oil and weight.?

i hope you are not running thin EPA MPG oil in this old dog. huh ?

double bad, it wasnt designed ! for that in 95 and it has High miles.
15w-40 in this old car. or 10w-30 min. nothing lower.

SacraTomatoe is hot Climate. (my Aunt lives there , on the Sac river bank)

does it do it only hot.?
does it do it only cold.?
or both?
never at idle. and only between 1000-2000 rpm, correct.
or just random. i could not figure out first post.?
lets nail down the symptoms better.
especaily that hot and cold thing.

you replaced the sender , what PN?
suz # 37820-82001?

aftermarket ,fits many cars is.
standard motor products , smp-ps160 fits this car.
is common as nails.

if new sender gates on lamp, then pressure is way too low, 7psi or something very low.
or the wiring is bad.

the pressure sender is open when pressure is good.
and closes and shorts to ground if pressure is bad.
it the wire grounds (bad insulation) then you will get a false idiot lamp indication.

the pump is spec.'d at 55-60 Psi at 3000 rpm.
i will look in my fsm tomorrow for full test.

Hey Thanks again. So sorry I don't reply very fast, but happy to say the problem is kinda fixed. I got an actual pressure gauge installed. Got good oil pressure. The light on my dash still blinks randomly though. I don't realy want to find the short. I was thinking just pull the bulb out, but i was wondering if there was anything else hooked to the bulb? The wire that goes to the old sending unit is tucked up and away and I don't really need the light if all it says is there is no pressure.

Also was should my oil pressure be at Idle....

THanks in advance...
