what ,carb? a 97 is mulitpoint fuel injection.
what is 97-00 ?
what country, ?
if outside of usa and Canada (which use VIN to id body and engine)
you have this.
read body tag

before you post no starts. you need to ID the engine.
there are vast differences here.

question:
wont start or wont crank?

and yes, a tbelt slip will stop starts. and it will also destroy the engine doing so if true.
this is a 16valve engine , right? and is interference type.

pistons hit valves. scratch whole engine. (mostly) $2500 mistake. for $40 belt.

id not try to start it. I wouldnt but then I need my valve to be straight and snappy.

cheers

tell more , get more.

you check engine lamp is on,
pull the codes.

check the belt first.
