Carb or throttle body? USA model or foreign? Put a fuel pressure gauge on it? Look through this: Jerrys main sidekick page

here are the steps. ( would be nice if you stated engine time, better answers result)
8v or 16valves.
Given spark good. (test fuel, passes muster, veerrooooomm stop)

1: compression test all 4 , 150psi or more, if one or more cylinders are dead the EFI system will fail your, fail to start , fail to run.

2: Low fuel pump pressure ( many causes, but first discover this fact)
3: Pressure good test 2 above ,so now we place a NOID lamp on the injector and find out if the ECU is firing the Injector (s) <<< what engine you got?

you can do set 2 or 3 in any order, just toss coil, which ever.

since you didnt state the engine type, I can not comment further.
but..

if it is a 16v , I wouldnt risk blowing the engine up,until the timing belt is inspected.
but I just hate giving $1000 to JDM and $200 to some trucker.

when posting identify the car, the body, then drive train. complete.

eg:
1993 Tracker, 1.6L 8V, 4sp Auto, 4wd, 4door.

you keep asking questions but never tell what car you are driving, why?
93 sidekick does not help. much.

are you outside USA or canada, ? answer that too. please.
did you know these cars are in fact sold with carbs up to 2001 in Europe.

and if you dont tell what you have and where you live, it is impossible to answer your questions. MANY MANY diffeent configurations WORLD WIDE..

this is the WWW. we can questions from all points WW.

cheers.

answer get very good, if input is good.
what you got man.

bingo 8v. USA, might be Fed48 or Calif version? (slight diffs)
this means it TBI injection . throttle body injection !
that means you can crank it and see fuel spray, real time. (nice huh?)
the injector is top center item in TB.
http://carfix.stufftoread.com/fresh-...inj-view1w.jpg

if it dont spray , or is weak.
then:
1: fuel pressure is low or nill.
2: ECU is not firing the injector. ( never hot wire this injector , it is 1 ohm ! coil)

at this junction , many toss a coin, or if they have both a NOID light and a Fuel gauge.
must will do the NOID test. (no crawling)
if the Noid fails then you have lost the Injector signal ( many reasons for that, see end)

if the NOID lamp flashes, then the pressure must be bad or clogged fuel filter
or the injector or screens on same clogged.

A noid lamp can be made for $1.40 at radio shack.
see mine flash? cranking.
http://carfix.stufftoread.com/NOID/91-noid-sf1.jpg

my pump test.
Fuel-pump-testing

the noid lamp can fail for 3 reasons:
1: bad ecu. or wires from ECU to injector.
2:no spark, all injection is killed if spark read back by ECU , fails. (car crash safety)
3: TPS signalling W.O.T wide open throttle. (bad TPS or ground wire to it cut)
WOT is unflood and stops all injection while cranking , only.

since you have spark you have power to ecu and #2 should be a go.

BUT ?......
Is the CEL lamp working correctly.
ON at key on, and no start. ( this on at key on is self test passing, inside ECU)
if you place the jumper to activate Diagnostics does it flash out code 12.
if you crank engine , with jumper in place does it flash out 41 or 42 code. (or 12)
those two 40ish codes are bad CAS/CMP in DIzzy and bad spark failure.

if CEL lamp does not come on at key on. then the lamp is dead or the ECU is out to lunch.

if the CEL comes on but fails to flash code 12 or other codes, then it is again, out ot lunch( bad)

last and not least is my unified no start page.
Cranks-but-no-start

my attempt to list them all. not an easy thing.

but yours is bad injection.
i'm sure.
and only to things can stop injection.
ECU not PULSING the injector , or no fuel pressure to injector.

the fuel pump runs for only 3 seconds each key on.
this again for fire and crash safety.
to hear pump listen at fuel filler neck (2 persons to do that)
if it buzzes , that dont mean its dead ,but it is good indication of power and ECU
being able to count to 3 , which is quite a bit)

that aught to get you on TRACK.

happy holiday cheers !!
