Default 1997 Suzuki x90 power problem

My 1997 suzuki x90 has the 1.6L engine...I think it is SOHC. I had a mechanic work on it last year. It was lacking power and slow revving. It was also making a knocking noise on the bottom. His diagnosis was something wrong with the timing gear, or the keyway. Also he said that the distributor was in there wrong. When I got the car back I was satisfied about how it ran. A year later now it has lost power again and the SES light began flashing (Random Cylinder misfire). I notice that the crank pulley does have a slight wobble at idle. I did what many of the guys on this forum said and advanced the distributor. I reset the computer and test drove it, noticing that I could drive up hills again. I have no idea what the timing is set at as there are no numbers on the timing marks. It starts and runs good now, and the check engine light is off. I am just wondering what the ramifications will be if the keyway comes off while I am driving down the road...any help would be appreciated, thanks!

The 1.6, 16v is an interference engine. Don't drive it until you investigate the crank pulley and timing gear (common problem) and correct the problem. Also check the compression.

last person that put in belt ,failed to torque the big 17mm nut on the crank pulley
to 94ft/lbs. SEE TSB , its on my Tbelt page.

this destroys the crank snout.

no as posted, by ranger, the bad key way will , cause the key to shatter.
when this happens the cog will walk.
when this happens the engine will be toast. (pistons hit valves , end of world)

it wont be a pretty sound.
dont be driving 80mph in front of a logging truck. (him of course tail gating)

now fixing it ,is another long sordid story.
best told by searching long and hard into the bowels of this forum.

wish you luck get it cured.

happy holidays.
