Default info on setting idle

I installed my new EGR valve today and now want to get my sweeties kick back to its old self. I tried to set the idle with a voltmeter~ Sears/Penske old school analog, 16V or 32v scale~ but I don't get any voltage by jumping pin C to B and hooking up voltmeter, + to A pin and - to C pin Am I doing something wrong? I have it idling at ~800 with inductive tach hooked to plug wire. I turn on the AC and idle goes up to~ 1200. I just wanted to try it with a voltmeter to see how it works
Thanks for your help. Almost back to normal

your car is 16v,
your car is 1993? ( i see 4 car in your signature) 93 should be 4pin DLC?
your car is 6 pin DLC.?
please state the car for every fresh start post . so we dont have to reread hundreds of posts to find context. if possible. thank you.

assuming that. only figure 5 applies, on my page (fsm photostats)
jumper goes to B to D (ground)
meter goes, to F to D (ground)

oh , your IAC works now. the IAC is what made the 200 RPM rise.

or or you saying you have a a 4 pin DLC plug next to battery.

that being the case? 4pins,
c to b jump is good.
meter A to C is good too.

put meter across a 9v transistor battery and see if meter is working. "sanity test it is called" if fail check range , connections, or internal fuse on meter.
DC scale 16vdc is ok,
leads to minus and +Volt side pins.

after confirming year and total pin count , tomorrow AM will check my FSM again.
92-95 and also check my car with a jumper.
using 2 meters.

I wanted to try my new real Dutycycle meter too. been using the old analog one for too long.

cheers.

Sorry, yes it is a 93 16V MPI 4 door and has a 4 pin DLC. My meter reads battery voltage correctly so this is why the question about if I read your directions and hooked up my analog meter right.
Slowly we are getting it.

so you read 12v on battery and 0v or near on the 2 test pins.

if that is true (will check in AM the fsm page) then the meter is got a problem with
high high frequency signals.

its an even toss on meters. some can work just fine with the chopper wave form,
others see NOTHING.
and a digital meter gets all confused.

Some nicer meters that have frequency scale (hertz) also have dutycycle as it is
a derivative of Frequency, that is why my new meter has it.

The FSM warns that this might happen when using a analog meter.
What happens is the signal is at 12v (14.7 running) half the time.
so the voltage reads half the peak value.

im sure your signal is good, it might be tad high or lower , 6 or 8v but is close.
I bet.
a scope shows exactly what is there.
here is mine with valve opening 25% of time closed 75% ( cuz i had,an air leak)

http://carfix.stufftoread.com/IGN_timing/iac-wave1w.jpg

5 mS period or f= 1/t or f= 200 hertz

the Dutycycle meter and DSO,or GmM or scope all work but analog is (some do some dont)

i want to scope the 2 pins shown in the fsm photo.
to see if they are diff, that what is present across the IAC-E.
curious. (it might be just a mirror image electrically is my guess, saving you from backprobing the iac)
Not sure,
more later.

Have you got the meter on the AC range?

the signal is AC at 200 herts. (a square wave is AC)

all things are DC on car , except the ECU Pulse modulated outputs. and the Stereo audio. and maybe that dang chime.

one is the iac, the other is the Injectors.

I tested mine today and it failed.
it failed all 3 ways, analog meter, dutycycle meter ,and scope.

oh,fun, get to find out why?

dag nab it.

i was just saying dont use the AC range. that's all. on the meter.

you not using this again , are you.
