Idle issue w/ 16valve 1.6

The original problem was the engine would idle around 1500 rpm while coasting. Once I finally came to a stop would idle down to 800-1000. Pulled instake tube and cleaned throttle body, didn't look too bad but since it was apart I cleaned it. Reassembled and engine would idle 1500 to 2000. Inspected all hoses for leaks - none...that I found. I turned the idle adjustment down til it idled around 800 and bottomed the screw. It's in an 87 samurai w/ Sidekick 5speed. I just bought it and am getting it ready for duty, so I don't know if the "sensor" light works. I did a cold start and will hang around 1000 - 1100 rpm not the usual 1500 til warm. Was this the right thing to do? Still runs good. Also, are there any engine numbers that will help find out what year it is.... for parts reasons? Thanks

Thanks for the help and any more info for idle control sensor tests would be helpful. The big problem is I don't know what year eng or ecu or how the harness is wired. I'm guessing 1995 but not sure. I don't know if the CEL is wired or where the diagnostic connector would be, still has an 87 dash which has "Sensor" light.
Is there an engine number that will help me figure out what year? Are all 1.6 16v the same?

i have that same problem but never figured it out did'nt throw the CEL
mines a 5 speed so i roll down the hills and it would idel high unless i stop, but the funny thing is my speeo is'nt working at the moment and that stoped the high idel while coasting because it does not know when the car is moving

To 95 Tracker, my speedo is working.

Thanks for all the info, but I will have to look later. I was leaving work and the transmission got stuck in 5th gear after I heard a "pop". The transmission guy just got it out today, it is a 2wd tracker transmission... In a 4wd Samurai. I will check back when I get it out of the shop. Thanks again.
