1996 tracker engine swap

I have a 1996 geo tracker. That had the camshaft gear issue...... grrrr. The po said he already had an engine swap 40k miles ago. While I was looking online for a new pulley I found that the 96-98 models had one camshaft gear and the 99-00 engines have another. The 99-00 models had the option for the 1.6l and the 2.0l engines. Can a 2.0 engine be swapped for a 1.6l on the 1996 chassis and gearcase without any issue??

If so that may be the way to go becuse that appears to be the fatal flaw on the 1.6l engines and the 2.0 engines have timing chains with dual overhead cams.

it will go in fine but the wiring harness difference might be an issue

I think this same issue is deing debated on the suzuki forum at the Pirate 4x4 site. If you go there do a search first or you'll be hammered on.
