THat is one of the good things about using Firefox. The pop-up trolls target IE. My bro has an Apple computer and never has a problem with pop-ups. I run a scan for adware, spyware and viruses often and still get pop-ups from time to time.

I run IE and never get pop-ups, check your anti-virus and see if you have a pop-up blocker.

Are you refering to the floating ads that come up when you schroll over a highlighted word?

If you are using Internet Explorer, click on tools, look for pop up blocke and then turn it on.
