89 Tracker Backfires at idle and when i give a quick flick of the gas pedal

I just tried to time the ignition timing and everything went good but when i let it idle it starts to backfire... i dont know if i did anything wrong,, and also my idle is between 1500 and 2000 RPM's, when i go to move the distributor to make the idle go down... it stalls... so i dont know what to do and i need a car quick... if anybody can help me that would be awesome
