Ok, so I'm like one of those relatives you only hear from when they're in trouble! I'm driving tonight, and suddenly my horn goes on - not full blast but kind of at half power. Self-help...I cut the wire to it on the steering wheel, but the horn didn't go off. After about 5 miles it did, but then went back on again after about 5 minutes. When I got to my destination and turned the car off, the horn kept going and all the outside lights wouldn't go off - at about half power. Removing fuses didn't help...I finally disconnected the negative to the battery. Later, when starting up the car again, same thing happened...horn at half loudness, but then it went off and when I turned the car off, all went off. Disconnected the battery anyway, to be on the safe side. I'm bringing it to my mechanic in the morning, but thought that maybe someone would have a suggestion as to where to look - these electronic problems can take hours to find a $2.00 repair! 1991 Geo Tracker, 1.6, 5 speed, ECM, etc., Thanks for any suggestion as to where to look for short!!
Nope, no alarm. If it was just the horn blaring...but the horn and the lights staying on after the car is turned off, the wire from the steering column to the horn cut, and the switch to the lights turned off as well?? Is there anywhere that you can think of where these two 'accessories' could cross each other?
It sounds like you have a stuck relay, or more than one relay stuck.
Keep the electrical diag simple.
1. check for correct voltage, key on, enging off, and engine running.
(low voltage will cause relays to stick)
Get the wiring schematic for your vehicle, trace each circuit, from connector, to connector. This means unpluging connectors and check the wire in that section, one section at at time.
Make sure you unplug the fuse(s) as well. You will need to remove the bulbs and relays to isolate the circuits.
Personally, after the voltage check, I would remove and check the relays before I begin my wire tracing.
Poor grounds will cause odd problems as well, check the chassis ground behind the left tail light.
Good luck.
If all else fails, ask jtgh, he knows everything!

no, just engines and there controls. (horns and lights, can speculate with the best)
horn relay is under ECU.
it is activated by the horn ring in side steering wheel. the Horn ring , simply grounds the
the relay (blue-green ) wire of the Horn relay.
she has full schematic of car i gave it last year. still have it , if need be. can share....
all lights or just parking lamps?
the tail dome fuse power them (above left knee (left hand drive)
if this fues does NOT kill parks, then the Park wires are shorted to power , illegally.
the output of the park switch (HL sw) is red-yellow wire goes all over vehicle.
I can not find an associated Horn and Park light issue.
the horn fuse is marked (stop-horn-fuse)
my guess? is wiring shorts in steering column.
green/black is horn live
and red-yellow are Park, etc , these both crossed to battery feed.
"marked hot all time on schematic"
one other possible
if you have a rear defogger switch assembly still intact?
if it shorts from yell-green to red-yell , bingo , all lights on. (most)
pull "rear defogger fuse" it fix this.
id pull the horn relay, for now.
and work the light issues.
hope that helps.

My server has Engine Repair proc/data. Check it out.
Jerry!! Isnt' the world a better place with you around? I was hoping to 'flush' you out of the woodwork and get a reply from you!! Thanks for input...I am going up to mechanics armed with printout and schematic. Fingers crossed....
And it was all lights stuck on. Kind of dim, but all on. What are Park wires? I have manual tranny. No rear defogger either.. My Tracker is just like yours...(although probably not in as good a shape....5 speed, 1.6L ECM, convertible, etc.) Sometimes stuff like this happens on the car, and then is fixed by, what we used to call, "FM" (as in f****g magic), in that it just stops and never happens again...My way of repair.
I love this car....this morning when I went to the mechanic, I put the negative back on to the battery and BINGO - smoke started coming up from down in the engine compartment. My little Tracker pointed the problem out to me! A short where some wires were starting to wear through due to rubbing up against a sharp metal bit on the frame. So, easy repair! HOWEVER, for my next question...(and why are these things never easy)...The low beam on one of my headlights went out, so I need a replacement bulb. HB1/9004 (DOT). Why are there a trillion different kinds of these on the net? I have learned I cannot just go into the auto parts store here and get them (DOT v Europe...), can't switch HB1 to 3,4,5, etc., without conversion kit. Eck...I just want a bulb. I've been on JC Whitney and can't find factory replacement. Any suggestions??? (I'm in Ireland....) Thanks for all your help!
