Thanks for the info and link, Jerry. I understand that DOT lamps are not legal here. My car is running a wee bit under the radar in Europe. It is illegal to have red directionals (must be amber..) Also, the parking lights and directionals in front must be 2 separate units (not one like the Tracker has). They passed me in inspection in 2000, when inspection first came in here, and gave me a 'fail advisory' stating that on my next inspection the car would fail unless the lighting was changed to European standard. As a matter of principle, I don't think this makes a car more 'roadworthy'. In the meantime, for whatever reason, they seem to have forgotten about me and my inspection (they send you a notice every 2 years with the appointment date for your inspection...I haven't heard from them since 2000. Consequently, I am still driving about with 'illegal' lights, in an uninspected car, for 8 years.....) As i don't drive fast (55 or under) I rarely get stopped. And if I do get stopped, I'm still driving with my New York license (oops...also illegal for a resident). I tell them I'm here on 'holiday', and they leave me alone. Anyway, having proper headlights will help me see in the dark, if nothing else....When you say factory color (colour....), do you mean I should stay away from these blue lights??

I guess the color of the lights didn't mean much to me. But what is this H1, H2, H3 stuff about the lights? Is the 9400 the connection? Hopefully the lights will work. They can't be any worse than I have now - The plastic brackets for holding the headlamps up have long since broken - they are now being held up by bits of wood, and look rather like a cross eyed person coming down the road. As there are no street lights here, (and my night vision has deteriorated with my advanced age...) it can make driving at night an adventure. But I just take it slow...after all, there is nothing to rush to see or do in Ireland.....

47 What do the H1, H2...H4 designations mean?

there are many types, but yours are 9004.
that number is a specific type lamp, and some strange cos. sell them in colors.
that is illegal here. only the orig. are legal here but that dont stop.
by the way independant human studies have proven that the normal lamps
that have yellow natrual cast of light as in tungson , alow l our eyes better and farther.
so all this jive and hype you read is , well , just that.

and of course brighter is better but over 45w/65w ( will probably smoke the oil wires)

you need new head light shells. I got one from fleebay cheap, new is outragious.

Oem is like $160 , and then adding ship to Ireland....
just be patient and find one at a time. left and right.
also put in wanted to buys here in the classified section.

good luck and be careful at night.
