Default New Vitara on the forum

Hello everybody,
I am new to the forum and to the Suzuki comunity. I have recently bought a 1990 Suzuki Vitara 2 door, 5 speed manual transmision. It has the 1,6 l, 8v injection engine. I don,t know if I am beeing paranoic but it seems that the consumption on this "baby" is huge. I have managed to get 8,2 l/100km ouside the city on public main roads, but in the city traffic it needs arround 20 l/100 km!!! That scares me like hell. I mention that I ran only in 2WD mode.

Can you please suggest a solver to the problem?
And can please someone tell me what a normal consumption rate on this car should be!

Thank you very much!

PS: I do recognise that I haven't changed the oil in the engine , the oil filter and air filter from the former owner! Will do that soon

Yeah, jtgh has put a lot of work into his website, helping members & vistors to this forum. Hope your compression is good and don't forget to check for any diagnostic codes stored in the ECM.

You should be getting 25mpg/gal city and about 32mpg/highway, if you're driving reasonably.....If my calculation is correct, you're now getting about 33mpg highway which is normal, but only 13mpg in the city....Will need a more experienced person on the site, than me, to figure out why your city mpg is way off (and hopefully my calculations are correct, eh? 4.45 litre to the gallon/100km = 62 miles....)
