Default remove the cat? '94 1.6l 16v JLX

will the computer throw a code if i remove the catalytic converter from the exhaust? its a 94 sidekick with the 1.6l 16v engine. it does have atleast 1 OXY sensor... i want to throw a 2" exhaust from the downpipe back on it but i dont know what to do about the cat just yet.

the 94 here, (usa) No cat, will fail with the with code 51 , EGR bad.
EGR mod valve senses no back pressure and munges the EGR feed. thus the code.

some , or ok, others are marginal other s go to limphome mode with rich mixture and retarded timing.
Calif. cars are worst and any fed48 kick after 1993.

there are over 50 ECU's world wide. on the 92-95 ranges.
i have knowledge of maybe 5.

hope that helps.

yup, that helps. thanks! i'll just get a high-flow cat rather than removing it all together.

many here claim? that replacing the whole thing end to end with performance
manifold, hiflowcat and cat back , works great , so long as O2 sensor is in proper place.

it gets down to making the ECU/ECU happy.
some can be easy other s hard.

keep i mind the ECU is hard coded.
the ECU Air fuel tables (maps) and spark are all hard coded for a stock VE.
VE = Volumetric efficiency.

in english, that means how well the engine pumps air? at all RPM's and loads.
Intake tract, valves sizes, displacement and exhaust flow all effect this.

modifying the VE , of the engine, risks make the tables , useless.

in the old days, you could just punch it all out, and drill the jets 15% larger and you had a rocket. no more.
to do that today needs a new PROM for the ECU. ( not sold but coming soon)
