I fixed this problem on my 2005 Forenza by popping up the plasic plate on the shifter that has P N D 2 1 on it. Underneath is the shifter mechanism. The PARK sensor switch is on the driver side of the shifter mechanism. I cut out that switch and shorted the two wires together with a wire nut. The releases the PARK lock, releases the ignition key lock and on my car kept the battery from being drained because the ignition key could not be turned into the OFF position.

Default shift lock

hi
there are 2 issues. no starting (cranking ) blocked by shift PRND321 switch down under. on tranny.

and the brake park lock out solenoid.

2 cures. mechanical or electrical. x2

apply power to the solenoid full time (ignition on to > the solenoid)
or repair the brake interlock it self. ALL.

or the mechanism could be bad, bent, broken parts on solenoid.

it is up to you how to do this.

my leaning, if it were mine is to put a hidden switch that applies power to the solenoid , for emergancy usage.
course my mix , will require fixing solenoid if bad.
i ask my self do i want my car defeated by the piece of junk? no way.
so i have cheating device.
imagine being stuck far from home and in a very compromising situation.
IMHO.

last is to render the solenoid inop by bypassing (mech) the lock completely.

we have posters here that reported all these ways.

my wifes lock EMG switch is hidden in the center tray console, out of sight.

hope that helps and blow up.

cheers.

hey thanks guys
The problem was the shifter cover wasn,t set back in position . i know .. never seen anything like it . the sligthest movment of the cover causes the solenoid to kick back , and you have to use the reset . on the side to reset .. was a simple fix of 4 bigger screws . but here a tip make sure you reset before placing the shifter cover back on . this silly but simple thing cause all that problems .. thanks guys , this job Marked DONE!!
