Default And now for something completely different...

Has anyone installed gun racks in their Tracker/Sidekick? I'm trying to think of some convenient way to hold a long gun (unloaded, of course. Safety first!) securely enough to not fall out when bouncing down a back road, but easy enough to get at for road hunting...

Maybe something upright on the B pillar, or a scabbard along the door? I dunno, really. Or an overhead, if that wouldn't reduce head room too much? There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of space *anywhere* in these things... Which, of course, is part of their charm...

have you thought of somthing on the rear tailgate? like welding a piece of sheet metal across it and them making hooks for the guns and welding them on...that would put them outta the way behind the back seat and put them outta sight of them pesky coppers.

Also, that would put them out of reach of the driver and passenger, though. The idea is to be able to drive along a decommissioned logging road (where hunting's perfectly legal), spot a grouse (or deer) in the ditch, stop, open the door, step out, grab the gun, load, and shoot... The passenger could just hold theirs between their knees, but the driver... not so much.

i have a friend that mounted a gun rack from the roof in an old jeep of his for the same purpose. it was basically two j hooks that were held up by bolts and wingnuts so he could take it off when he didn't need it. he bolted it right to the roof so and used huge washers and a backing plate so it didn't collapse his roof in. and for holding it down we just used a bungee cord around the hook and barrel of the gun on one side and around the hook and butt of the gun on ther other. couldn't seee out of the rearview but off road it wasn't bad
