97 1.6L ??? or 1.8L ???
NO SPARK , and does crank briskly.

this motor, i shy at answer here as you didnt give engine displacement.
i will answer for 1.6L as it is the most common.
if it had an alarm you would kown that right? it would have an enable switch in car.

first off , do not work on any car with air bags. until you learn the disable procedure.
they can be lethal to mechs.

on this motor there is a cranks sensor CPS on the bottom front of oil pan, connect it.

Have Distributor yes = 1.6L
no dizzy, but have coil on plug 1.8L.

also ,shooting from hip again , no country stated.
in usa/canada, we have OBD2 ECU.
connect any full scan tool and watch the sensors.
RPM cranking,
TPS below 70% (foot off gas)

Check engine lamp on?

dtc p0010 thru p0020 , is cps fail (crank position fail or cam sensor)
p0320-323 same.

tell more.

Default exact dwg s

yours has the integrated Dizzy .
cmp, ignitor , coil and cap and rotor.
all in one.

this one takes more patients to troubleshoot
i presume you have a fresh cap and rotor. as they are so cheap.
2 down 3 to go.
i will send you the schematic.
here below

the tests for this all in one, are hard and convoluted.
id see if a cap and rotor fixes it.

then open it and look for loose things, correct them.
look for burning on the coil.
if it is dead ,then get one at a wrecker.

or some stores have exchange rebuilds on these.

see attachment.
if you want we can walk thru each section testing.
