Default installing rear main oil seal 16v geo tracker

Quick question as i do not want to pull engine again . I have the engine out of my tracker and I want to repalce rear main oil seal . I have pulled the seal retainer from the engine and pushed the old seal out . To install new seal do simply put the seal on the crankshaft with rear of seal resting flush against block and reinstall retainer or do i pre press the seal into the retainer then install seal and retainer on block and crankshaft and if I do pre press it into the retainer, how far in do i press it and ho wcan i be sure it not slighly cocked in retainer. My manual just says install rear seal. Thnks in advance cant wait for the snow but want to get mt engine in!

yes, put it in the retainer. for sure !

of course the manual shows a factory tool to do it.
with a proper seal driver (same size of seal but ever so slightly less.
oil the seal lips and crank.
drive seal into housing until flush with out side edge, no more.
it must not be canted.
out of FSM, (paraphrased)
