Default Newer Trackers

I'm currently battling my parents, i want a first gen tracker, (Suzuki made, not chevy) I want a 4x4 with a 1.3 for simplicity, but my parents are like blah blah, you can't find parts, and they are garbage, get a new one. Really though, a vehicle is a vehicle, as long as you take care of it, it shouldn't give you that much grief. Anyways, i know the 1.3s are solid, and really easy to work on, and the drivetrain is also pretty easy to work with as well. So, my point, i don't really know anything about the new trackers other than chevy trackers use a rack and pinion steering set up, which i'm not really a fan of. That and the new 2dr trackers aren't very aesthetically appealing to me. So, if you guys could give me some pros and cons that would be sweet.

I have a 96 and my father has an 89. Both of us use them as a daily "run around" vehicle so that we don't have to drive our big trucks. Both have a 1.6l. As far as I can tell they are pretty much the same with the exception of the fuel system, ecu, and some minor updates. I don't know a lot about the newer Vitara's or Chevy Trackers but in my 96 I get good reliability and the best gas mileage of any 4wd vehicle that I've ever owned. The only problem that I've had so far was with my transmission. It took about 15 minutes to find a new one. With so much on them being an older style manual design they are way easier to work on than the newer stuff.

rack an pinion. maybe on new ones.?
but up to 98 , they have ball and sector steering , even the 1.8L does.
it really comes down to body and year.

2d or 4dr, (4wd is for sure right)
now for year.
96 has the smarter easier to view sensor data , OBD2 .
prior to that you need fix it the hard old slow way. with meter.

no the 96 + will throw codes more easy.
like p0420 (slow cat) .

then tranny,
5sp best
4sp auto best auto (OD)
3sp is a gas waster in town. but not too bad due to light weight car.

tracker / side kick
both are same up to 1998 save the plastic trim junk.
ops mine has GM covette red paint , throw on in Canada CAMI plant.
why inport paint? , same with Radiator , not Suzuki. but Harris xxxxx?
the parts are all stamped , mitsibushi, etc. kinda hard not to notice.
But the GEO sticker fools most.

im looking now for rack on trackers.
oh yes, they are there, after 2000? the power steering comes with rack and pinion.
so you have a choice.
sector manual , rack power.
what else dont you like on new versas old or tracker versas sidekick.

Id consider 3 more things.
1; weight, wieght is a killer offroad. so that is one.
2: but length is better on ice.
3: but old is better if you get a dent off road, just laugh.
have this, cry.

lol, i know right. Yeah, i wasn't even sure if anyone would have been able to help, but they would rather have me own one of the 99 or newer trackers, so i was hoping i could find some info on those, i've been looking around and haven't really been able to come up with much.
