Post I need some help with my '96 Geo tracker

Recently I have been having trouble getting my car to go into first gear. I thought maybe my clutch was going out, but some people told me that if my clutch was going out, then it would go into gear, but it would slip out of gear. For a while I was just forcing my car to go into gear then everything would switch gears fine. But one day, I was in line at a fast food place and I couldn't get my car to go into gear at all. No matter how hard I tried and tried it just wouldn't go into gear. I had some nice strangers help me move my car, and one of them looked at it and told me my clutch cable was loose. I had a friend of mine who is a mechanic check it out and when he went to look at it, it went into gear just fine and it was driving just fine for a few days until today. I was at a gas station and when I went to leave, my car refused to go into gear. I had to have my car towed.
But yeah. So when I take my car in next week to have it looked at, I don't know what to ask them to do. With me being a female that has no clue about cars, I don't want them to take complete advantage of me.
If anyone could help, I'd really really appreciate it!
Thanks in advance!

Default

sounds like a bad clutch cable.
the sheath being worn thru such that one day it works and the next day it dont.
just follow the cable with eyes from engine bay fire wall (behind clutch pedal up high)
to the left and down below radiator bottom tank and then to the clutch left side .
Form A to B, along the way will be damage , obvious.

it is a simple clutch linkage problem.
$100 total repair. P&L
