I purchased a headlamp assembly for my 2-door 1989 Suzuki Sidekick convertible. While I’ve replace the bulb, I’m having problems replacing the old assembly which has a cracked glass lens. I believe that the front grill must be removed to replace the assembly. Unfortunately, my service manual which is for a 1989 Geo Tracker has no instructions for removing the grill. Can someone tell me how to remove the grill and replace the headlamp assembly? Can someone recommend a service manual that includes this procedure?
After spending a good part of this afternoon studying the front grill, I think I’ve answered my own question. In order to take off the front grill, there are 5 fasteners to remove. All of the fasteners are accessible from the outside of the car. You need not open the hood to remove them.
• Two hex screws at the front of the wheel wells fasten the ends of the grill. These screws are vertical and are to be removed downwards.
• There is one screw above the center of the grill. It is horizontal and is removed from the front of the car.
• Two plastic fasteners at the bottom of the grill are located near the lower inside corners of the headlamps. The fasteners are rectangular in shape and are tricky to remove. Wrap a string or twine under the fasteners and pull. If you use a screwdriver, you risk scratching the grill.
There is a rubber liner behind the headlamp assembly that serves as a dust or mud shield.
My local Suzuki dealer cannot find the part number for it. Does anyone know the part number or the page number in the parts manual to find it?
