Default p0403 Code on 1999 Tracker 1.6 l injected

Has anyone ever done an EGR cleaning on this Engine it is different than those that are shown here on the Forum there seems to be much more to it than the standard 1.6 L Engine.
Your Help would be appreciated.
I cleared the Code but the engine slows to below Idle and then quits.
If I keep it slightly revved up it will stay running smoothly.
Thank you
Joerg

I used a ODBII Code Reader this was my first attempt doing so and it gave me the Po403 Code. The software that came with it identified it as EGR Flow Circuit Malfunction and reading in this Forum there are a lot of people having the same problem. I had a 1995 Tracker with over 200000 km and pulled the head for an overhaul, we had to scrape out the EGR, it was completely caked.
This 1999 tracker has only 101000km on it.
The service engine light came on and a shop reset the code.
I then drove it 800km straight and the Code stayed off.
Today I unplugged the Connector of the EGR while the Car was running and replugged it but the Code 403 came on afterwards.
I reset it and it went away but now the Car will idle too low and stall.
It is a 1.6 Engine but unlike any I have seen before 16 Valves and 4 Injectors
must have been the last production before they switched to 2 litre engine.
I did not know that they had a 1.8L

excuse my dexlexia, 304 is misfire 4 and 403 is egr , sorry i should trust brain cells older than dirt. hahaha

yours is sticking open
or the VSV valve is malfunctioning.
more later , sorry for red herring. me bad

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Solenoid Control Circuit
SAE , defined.

first, make sure main valve dont leak.
then make sure the VSV is not stuck open allowing vacuum to reach egr at idle.
that is a start.

Wish I had a Diagram of the Engine or even better a Pictorial .The Haynes Manual I bought shows mostly the Samurai and secondly the Tracker up to
1995 and very little Details of any models thereafter.
It does not show my Engine and I have to guess which valve is which, although I have a fair idea by following the lines. What does VSV stand for?
I think I will have to Order the OEM Manual from GMC.
Its costly but.......
Nothing is a simple as the Cars of the 60's .

sorry jargon
Vsv, this is the vacuum solenoid valves.
like the one for EVAP sys.

the link i sent,
after looking , no EGR nfo.

your egr is either vacuum operated or
is direct ECU drive.

direct is wires.
vacuum can mess up many a way.

let me know which type you have , wires or vac tubes
i have no dwg either for 99

top fails
main egr tube (some are hidden some in plain site) will back with carbon.
EGR main valve packed or just sticking ,closed or open
EGR control bad in some way.
the tubing can crack from VSV to EGR.
do you have a MOD valve between EGR main> MOD >>> VSV >>> manifold nipple.?

the mod valve on 98s can go bad or its input can clog with carbon.
on 91-98 the EGR has a exhaust nipple on top, this nipple has an oriface that is
1/6" diameter, and LOVES To clog.
I DONT think you have this upper port.

those are my thoughts this night ,deep in Yucca mountain.
we dont need lights here.........

I have taken some Pictures of the engine and the EGR Area and will post them asp.
Thanks again
