Default Replacing ECU CAP's

Hello Jerry,
Ok I finally got in the CAP's and I removed the ECU and I'm ready to change them out.
One problem I see is that my CUP's are marked 50V not 63V. Is this ok?

Also here is a '90 Geo Tracker ECU picture for you and your files. It is slightly different than your 91 pictured.

thanks! Ben

AOK
and thanks for 90 photo.

just take care not to touch those white stamp size SIPS, single in line packages.
they are fragile.

yours looks in good shape.

cheers.

observe polarity , see the band on cap. should be marked minus.

No need to replace the CAP's yet anyway.
I GOT A CODE 12!!! wahoooooo!

The CAP's looked in pretty good shape and were marked 105 C.

I hooked back up the IAC wires and checked codes.
14 came up and indicated my coolant temp sensor was bad so I replaced it.
I started up the car and everything seemed to run better.
The idle is set a bit too high now that the IAC is working. (It was overridden to run higher)
I disconnected the neg battery cable and now I get code 12.
I can't wait until tomorrow morning to start her up and see how she does cold.
She is a cold blooded B***h in the mornings usually. I'm expecting better now.
Next she'll get a full tune up including setting up the TPS because it was screwed up too.
Got the directions from your site Jerry...Thanks!
Be next weekend I should be able to run through emissions and be done with it.

Jerry, your work here is much appreciated.

Although my issues turned out to be more cause by the PO than the CAPS, you have led me in the right direction.

I'll hold on to the CAP's and replace them a bit later if I need them.

Ben

that is great.
and any sensor faults can cause loss of idle and MPG , and power.
code 14 is a gross fault of the ECT (open warning) , this will wreck cold start.

in AZ those summers back a cap, really good.
you an reset the codes by pulling the dome fuse. Memory wire it is too. (95 and older)

my tps page is updated. yesterday.
with 16v support page added and some better commenting.
cheers

Still runs bad when cold but I still have alot of adjusting to do before I get discouraged. Timing, TPS and a tune up should help tremendously.
Going to replace the air fuel and oil filters while I'm at it.
I've been looking forward to getting the old girl running top notch for a while now and the temps here in the desert are finally cool enough to put the time in.

My girlfreind and I have been scouting the desert every weekend safari style watching the wildlife. It will be even better when the Tracker is running puuurfectly.

Once everything engine is working right, I'll move on to a lift kit.
Much like MarkB.NV's. Our Trackers are almost identical and his looks awesome.

on a 90 , be sure the test the ECT and IAT very carefully with my resistance table.

just check hot and cold on car , with an ohm meter.
both have huge effects on mixture with 8v engine.
they read high , as they age , which is colder and cause richness.

temp-sensors

this makes it easy, unplug it first, it has a lock device.

cheers.

Thanks Jerry.

Well it turns out it wasn't the coolant sensor that was bad, it was the connector to it. Someone before me broke one side of the clip that holds it on. As I was driving, the CEL would come on and go off. I had my girlfriend watch the CEL while I pushed the connector onto the sensor and the light went off. Now I have to find a replacement connector. I'm going to try the boneyard tonight and if they don't have a donor, I'll go to the electronics store and buy two small female connectors to connect it temporarily.

Yup.

Anyway I found a neat trick to expanding my search of donors.
If you look up the coolant sensor at Checker Auto parts, you can reverse look-up all of the other cars that use the same sensor.
Now instead of looking for just a donor Tracker, I have about 300 other cars that will have the same connector as mine!

you are correct, i discovered that too, but sady keep forgetting to pass that nfo on.

the reverse cross is very cool.

i also did a simular vane, rockout, pn mfg, std products corp.... then went to their web site and found the part then saw a huge list of cars it fits.

i hope you find it,
i will see if i have one, i do have a spare harness.
more tomorrow. noonish.
