best guess :
valve cover gasket leaks.
both o-rings cracked in the Dizzy shaft and especially the dizzy base to head oring cracked.
last head gasket.

clean , and look always shows truth. always.

as long as a leak dont get to a 5sp clutch and the leak is less then 1 qt a week.
not an issue. top of weekly.

sure.
to lean burn one needs a new ecu.
or a piggy back device that controls , MAF or MAP or , something that controls the fuel pressure. ( I call them liar boxs)
or like my megasquirt I tune cruise to lean burn 16:1 then off cruise , it goes to normal.

I have a Megasquirt hooked up to mine (PNPlay) style. I can plug it directly into my OEM
harness with no changes to car at all.
I made up a custom adaptor to do it.
to do that i rev. eng. all my factory sensor and configured MS to just use them.

I then use MegaLogViewer, to tune car on road. ( after doing some guessing on base line tune , MS shows how to do this.)
i am still playing with it,as i only do this in the winter, summer is too busy. Surfs up?

The book by Jeff HArtman, Tunning for speed and economy covers all the paths.
amazon dot com or any book store.
AND HOW TO TUNE EMS ! 2 of the best books ever !

How to Tune and Modify Engine ... - Google Book Search

The Prius comes with this technology , out of the box.

The only problems are the silly catcon, goes INOP depending on exhaust temperatures.

and NOX emmissions are high.
to avoid NOX Prius engineers, took lean to 23:1 ( some serious lean there....)

Nox falls off to zero after 18:1 on most engines , otto cycle.

the funny thing about cancons , we feed them gasoline and air, (as huge waste) just to keep it lit off. maybe 20% of all road fuel is wasted this way.
sadly.

14.7:1 against 23:1 , on 20million barrels of oil a day. a huge waste. (non renewable too)
20,680,000 barrels/day ( quote, EIA)

i just to it for fun, not profit or to save the world, just to have options down the road.
Post Peak, options.

cheers.

There is good news ,
i read alot on the Automotive SAE forums and they say the big makers are scrapping
all old designs of cars. the current set are useless in every way, for the future.
Then end of the heavy iron is sunsetting.

engines, trannies ( no more slush pumps) smaller turbos that can do lean burn or switch to full power turbos.
light bodies. etc.

it will be fun to watch them.

Trust me the onlything stopping GM from bringing in ,there line up of high MPG cars , is the EPA. GM has them all over the world ,but not here.
( but just a taste)
