id give it a week.
many on other forums say, the old lube , had to flush out.

i think , some of the other lube might stick to the syncros like crazy.

if you do , have a bad 2nd syncro, any oil fix is way cheaper than the $200 bearing and synro kit (minus labor) I just did mine.

does it fail going up and down. tell more about what it does good and BAD.
both are important to diagnosis.
everyone forgets the good.

Thanks for the input. I'll ask him again to clarify what he thinks that oil was.

Today it was about 45degrees this morning. Shifting the first 10 times or so is sluggish and hard between first and second only. As I shift from first to second, coming out of first it feels like its under a load (as if its not coming out of first easily) and I can feel the teeth of 2nd gear. To get around this when its cold, I shift from first to third when I can, or start in second gear.

By the time I get to work, it shifts fairly smooth from first to second (about 30 miles to work).

I'm not opposed to pulling the transmission out someday to fix it, the tracker is my secondary vehicle that I drive to save on fuel. So I can drive another vehicle.

Again, thanks for the inputs...

i got confuse, a side poster confused me with a Reverse comment.

it dont go in to reverse then its a clutch problem, rev. is non synco and you must be stoppped. so forget the tranny if that is your your issue "hijacker (it's ok)"

dshoffman:
one test to isolate the clutch a bit, is to remove all free play (just for 1hr)
and test drive it cold.
if that act erases or improves the shifting then the problem is a dragging clutch.

a dragging clutch will find a weak syncro.
see?
the HULK ones eat the drag for breakfast but the weak one complains. (ones = syncros)
and guess which one is always the weakest , #2

a syncro all it does is match gear speeds before the lock up.
this prevents the grind.

these are constant mesh trannies and the cogs do the locking. 1 to 5
and 4th is specail as is reverse
there is no 4th gear, it just locks the main shaft front to rear. 1:1.

finding a dragging clutch is no picnic.

cheers.
and best of luck

dont feel bad, my first car had a cracked synco in 2nd gear. (1966)
( no synro at all when this happens, so I double clutch the 2nd gear until i could get one shipped in )
