Default 4X4 indicator light blinking

I have a 1999 Vitara. When I shift into 4x4, the green indicator light comes on but immediately begins blinking. This is a slow, regular blinking, not just random flickering. Doesn't matter whether car is moving or stopped.

I found two other posts with similar problem, and they received conflicting replies. One alleged that the blinking was "normal," the other suggested that the 4x4 air pump was going bad. Can anyone offer a third opinion?

Thanks.

Its a fault. Check that the air hose to the front diff is secure and has no leaks. Otherwise it could be a bad air pump or leaking seals within the diff.

Yes, I was afraid the blinking was a warning sign. Thanks for the specific suggestions on what to check!

Check the wiring to the pump too.
