1995 geo tracker, I need info..

Hello, I have a question about my geo tracker. I noticed that it had a little miss to it. Also it smokes a little. It does not burn oil, and the smoke has a gas burning smell not a oil burning smell. It has alot of power so I do not think it is a pistion and I put a new distriburator cap and plug wires on it but that did not help. Would anybody have an idea what could be the problem. TY, Brian

what engine. 16valves?
what tranny, manual or 3p4p.?

that smoke is black and yes, it is smelling like a bad lawn mower engine, puff puff ,
that is a really poor air fuel mix. Rich as heck. (black is gas, white is steam or oil smoke) white smoke that disapates quick is water steam. linger is oil.

first tell car engine type and then we can answer.

the problem can be many things, both mechancial or electrical.

but first , does this test pass:
1: key on , no start, CEL lamp is ON,
2: start car, CEL lamp goes out.

it must do both.
if not tell which is wrong.

In reply the tracker is a 4cyl 16 valve, 5 speed manual shift. The smoke is white but smells like gas and thier is a little gas comming out of the exhaust at times. CEl lamp is on, when started all lights go out. Could this be a erg valve doing this?

manual cant suck tranny fuild like autos can. good.
so its 100 % engine deal.

explain why smoke seems different than normal. (in general)
does it smoke when engine is hot.
or only cold.
how is gas mileage. 25-27mpg.?
what is mileage on that engine.

Please explain
gas comming out of the exhaust at times.?

does this mean gasoline is dripping from exhaust as in a liquid. (stuck injectors can do that)
or the fumes just smell for gasoline rich smelling.

this car computer is kinda dumb so it fails to report manythings like misfire.

it had a miss , did it go away after tune up.
does it idle nicely at 800 rpm hot and not shack the engine hard at this rpm?

we are doing good, lets do more.
